By Nick, for Nick.

Transformers: EarthSpark is an animated series that made its debut in November 2022 in support of the franchise of the same name. First announced on February 25, 2021, alongside Transformers: BotBots,<ref>Nickelodeon Orders 'Transformers' Animated Series Based On Hasbro Franchise — Deadline</ref> the series was co-produced by Entertainment One, Hasbro Entertainment and Nickelodeon Animation Studio. In the U.S., the series premiered on Paramount+ on November 11, 2022 with the first 10 episodes of the season. The series also airs on Nickelodeon, with the first two episodes premiering on the same date as a special preview, and the rest of the series premiering on February 10, 2023; a Japanese release followed in October 2023. The show's first season was released in three batches, all marketed as "season one." The second production season was released as two batches, marketed Netflix-style as two separate seasons; the "second" season premiered in June 2024, and the "third" in October 2024 respectively. Finally, an additional order of five episodes was produced to bring the series to a close, which premiered edited together as two extended-length "specials" in December 2025.

[edit]

Fifteen years after the end of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, young humans Robby and Mo Malto are struggling to adapt after moving from Philadelphia to the small town of Witwicky, Pennsylvania. When they find a strange object in a cave, it grants them mysterious robotic cyber-sleeves and gives life to Twitch and Thrash—the first ever Transformers to be born on Earth. Bonded to them through their cyber-sleeves, the Maltos adopt the two Terrans into their family. The Autobots, now working with Megatron and the secret human organization G.H.O.S.T. to protect Earth from the remaining rogue Decepticons, reach out to the Maltos and offer the Terrans the chance to be mentored by Bumblebee. With new threats on the horizon, such as the mad scientist Mandroid and the various Decepticons still at large, the Maltos work together to keep each other safe and learn more about each other, including what it truly means to be a family.

Creative team

[edit]

The series was developed for television by Dale Malinowski, Nicole Dubuc, and Ant Ward, who all served as executive producers; Ciro Nieli joined them in executive-producing the first two-parter, but stepped back to the role of "consulting producer" for the rest of the season. Dubuc also served as story editor for the first season, being joined in the role by Mae Catt partway through production. Other staff include supervising director Glen Murakami; storyboard directors J.J. Conway, Matthew Humphreys, Alex Kwan, Sebastian Montes, and Jordan Rosato; staff writers Bernard Badion, Isabel Galupo, and Maasai Singleton; character designers Nick Roche and Angelo Vilar; voice director Kristi Reed; and series composers Crush Effect. The season featured 3D CG animation by Canadian production house Icon Creative Studio.

EarthSpark underwent a notable shakeup in production for its second season. Dubuc officially departed as executive producer and story editor, having already stepped away from the series halfway through the first season to work on a new project. Mae Catt also did not return as story editor, and was succeeded in the position by Amy Wolfram. The entire stable of storyboard directors and staff writers were also replaced: taking their places are directors Vinton T. Heuck, Will Ruzicka, Scooter Tidwell, and Sheldon Vella, and writers Ian Busch and Matt Wayne. Animation duties were transferred to Indian animation studio 88 Pictures; series CG Supervisor Michael Launder explained that the change of studio was due to the fact that the stresses of production during season one had caused "the mental health and well being" of the Icon and Nick teams to suffer.<ref>{{#if: Some background: hasbro and nick decided to switch to a new studio as the mental health and well being of icon and the nick team was suffering during S1. |"Some background: hasbro and nick decided to switch to a new studio as the mental health and well being of icon and the nick team was suffering during S1."—|}}{{#if: https://twitter.com/mtlaunder/status/1799443950358692082 |Michael Launder|Michael Launder}}{{#if: Twitter |, Twitter|}}{{#if: |, ""|}}{{#if: 2024 |, 2024{{#if: 06 |/{{#switch:{{#len:06}}|1=006|06}}{{#if: 08|/{{#switch:{{#len:08}}|1=008|08}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: https://twitter.com/mtlaunder/status/1799443950358692082 ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://twitter.com/mtlaunder/status/1799443950358692082%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://twitter.com/mtlaunder/status/1799443950358692082%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://twitter.com/mtlaunder/status/1799443950358692082%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://twitter.com/mtlaunder/status/1799443950358692082%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}}</ref>
