In the past, Springer was part of the Wreckers unit assembled by Ultra Magnus. He served under the beck and call of his leader, witnessing silently when Ultra Magnus was forced to intercede between a confrontation between Senator Shockwave and fellow Wrecker Impactor. Shattered Glass II #1}}

In the present day, Springer was part of the Bodyscrapper unit that Blurr raced against in his pursuit of Sixshot. Shattered Glass #1

He was later part of the group called on by Slicer to lash Jetfire to the ground. Shatted Glass II #3 He attempted to attack Soundwave in the subsequent confrontation, ramming onto him in his car mode. • For his appearances in the IDW comics, Springer is a virtual redeco of G1 Springer's [toy].

first visual appearance in Another Light, SG Tailgate is modeled on G1 Tailgate's Legends Class Thrilling 30 body in one of the color schemes used for Camaro, the Brazilian redeco of the Windcharger toy, from which Tailgate's original G1 toy was retooled. In "Coalescence", released later but set earlier in-universe, Tailgate was given a temporary paint job based on Nightracer's colors, recycling a toy released by the Collectors' Club.
