Sandbox / Work in Progress

Documenting every Studio Series Backdrop display in one page. Buzzworthy Bumblebee included. Organized by media origin and listed in order of first appearance by SS number. All backdrops are artistic renditions of settings in the film, and usually aren't completely accurate to the actual film scenes they came from. Particularly notable inaccuracies will be mentioned.

Page style inspiration from Fire Blast effect page.

  • "version" = the image has been altered in some way, such as parted added/removed or an entirely new image but using the same name
  • "variant" = the exact same imaged, but with different cropping/pan/zoom/etc. Designated using "v#"

  • SS-05 Optimus Prime (Voyager, 2018)

I lied, there is another
...does this count?
  • Pyramid Desert Battle (Jolt version)
  • SS-75 Jolt (Deluxe, 2021)
gets its own entry because what the heck happened here?
Backdrop display is Battle of Chicago 1v3. (Of course, the aforementioned backdrop display is an error because Jolt never appeared in Dark of the Moon. The packaging itself, however, claims the toy comes with a "Pyramid Desert Battle" backdrop instead, which would have been a much more logical choice. Bizarrely, the included Chicago backdrop features Revenge of the Fallen branding anyway, and even the printing for that is unusually misaligned. Even more bizarrely, the backdrop image on the back of the packaging is just the Jolt render slapped over that of Studio Series 68 Leadfoot, who can still be seen peeking out underneath!
  • Shanghai Pursuit (v2)
  • SS-78 Sideswipe (Deluxe, 2021)

Notes

  • The SS-19 Vol. 1 Retro Rock Garage and SS-20 Vol. 2 Retro Pop Highway sets are the only Studio Series sets to not include a background of some sort.
  • 86-18BB Autobot Hound and 94BB Hatchet were cancelled, it is unknown what their backdrops might have been. A potential leaked image suggests Hound may have used "Battle of Autobot City" (1st version).
