It looks like the end for the Joes as the Lemuria comes under Maximal assault.
Synopsis
[edit]The Maximals have landed on Earth, and the fight against them isn't going well for G.I. Joe. Holed up inside their underwater headquarters, the Lemuria, with civilian refugees, Scarlett and Roadblock stand ready as the Maximals pound on the base door. Shipwreck is injured, Lady Jaye is having her wounds treated by Doc, and they're down to their last remaining ammunition—Scarlett is pretty confident this is the end for them, while Roadblock jokes that they've been in worse situations. As the door begins to buckle, Roadblock opens fire on the Maximals through the cracks, but Scarlett remains seated, lost in despair, unable to accept that this is how they go out. Roadblock admits that she's right; there's no chance they can win against this enemy, but they are G.I. Joes, and they do not surrender—they choose how they face the end. Buoyed by Roadblock's resoluteness, Scarlett stands to join him... but just before they can resume firing, Agent Helix's voice calls out from the other side of the door for them to stop. She, Snake Eyes, and Skywarp have arrived and sent the Maximals packing! Skywarp grumbles about the inconvenience of having to fly all the way back to the Lemuria to help, and Helix scolds him, while Roadblock and Scarlett simply slump back to the floor and smile at one another.

Notes
[edit]Continuity notes
[edit]- This four-page story was published as a back-up strip in Unicron #2, as part of a series of short stories that serve as "farewells" to the various characters and franchises of the Hasbro Universe in advance of it coming to an end in late 2018. The story does not provide any resolution to the cliffhanger that the unfinished Scarlett's Strike Force ended on, but does make reference to it, as Roadblock observes that the Maximal attack "isn't even the most trouble we've been in this year."
- When information about the Unicron back-ups was originally solicited, issue #2 was going to have a Micronauts strip, rather than a G.I. Joe one.[1] That story ultimately wound up being published in Unicron #4.
