His legal name is Prima Prime, of the Primes created by Primus. It's quite the mouthful.

When the war against Unicron was in stalemate, Primus created the first Transformer: Prima (aka Prima Prime). Appointed by his creator as a "Warrior of Light", Prima wields the legendary Star Saber sword into battle with his fellow stewards of Primus' planetary form, Cybertron. His nature often brings him into conflict with his opposite, fueling tensions that eventually explode into the War of the Primes. Eventually, Prima's Matrix of Leadership, once attached to the Star Saber's hilt[1][2], is relinquished and passed down to his eventual successor (and sometimes fellow member of the Thirteen): the Thirteenth Prime.

It is uncertain what relationship Prima has, if any, to Primon, another early Matrix bearer.

Conceptual History

A "Powerful Robot" was featured in the Sunbow cartoon's third season premiere, the five-episode arc Five Faces of Darkness. Created by the Quintessons, the "Powerful Robot" became an instigator of the Autobot Rebellion, only to be killed. This bot would be one of many Matrix Wielders seen by Rodimus Prime in the present-day of the cartoon. A few years later, the Marvel Comics continuity writer Simon Furman would introduce a bot created as the "First Transformer", who also wielded the Creation Matrix to protect Cybertron from Unicron.[3] Four issues later, this bot would be properly introduced as Prima, solidifying the character's basic traits as a Matrix Wielder, "First Transformer", and warrior.[4] Over two decades later, The AllSpark Almanac II would retroactively declare the "Powerful Robot", previously considered a separate character, to be Prima.

After Prima's debut in the Marvel Comics, he would be forgotten for over a decade until 2004's Transformers: The Ultimate Guide brought together several of Simon Furman's creations (including Liege Maximo and The Fallen) as members of the "Thirteen Original Transformers", who battled Unicron. A few years later, Hasbro reintroduced him as part of the definitive Covenant roster of the Thirteen with new concept art drawn by Ken Christiansen for Hasbro's new brand bible in BotCon 2010. Prima's main artifact would become a new incarnation of the Star Saber, which had been introduced as a Mini-Con weapon in Armada, with the Matrix being placed in its hilt.[5][6]. Given the title "Warrior of Light"[7], Prima's personality would be fleshed out in 2013's The Covenant of Primus, establishing him as a noble warrior focused on establishing order and civilization, in contrast to the chaos he saw within Megatronus and Liege Maximo. Prima and Megatronus would clash often, with their feud playing a role in the skirmishes that took place in the War of the Primes. This feud would inform future characterizations of Prima in the 2005 IDW continuity and the Transformers Collectors' Club's Ask Vector Prime.

Prima would be featured in the Power of the Primes as Prima Prime, a name that would be reused in Transformers One. One introduced an incarnation of the character who wasn't a Matrix wielder: that role would be given to the film's Thirteenth Prime, Zeta Prime. A few months after the film's release, the Age of the Primes would introduce the first proper toy for Prima Prime, amalgamating his Covenant and "Powerful Robot" designs together.

Note Concerning Main Picture

Just as The Fallen's main picture is being discussed being changed into the AOTP concept art design, we could consider changing Prima's main page into his AOTP concept art design - provided we can find a clean enough version without text over it. I'm not saying we should change it because it's the most recent design, but rather because it combines his "Powerful Robot" design with his "Aligned" design, serving as a more continuity-agnostic version. I think using AOTP pictures should only apply to Prima, The Fallen, maybe Alpha Trion, and maybe Liege Maximo, but the latter two will depend on what their toy designs look like. The rest should stick with their Covenant of Primus designs as the main pictures for now. --Daytonjhammon (talk) 13:48, 26 January 2025 (EST)
