When the Rescue Bots face a Sim they can't beat, they must learn to deal with failure and focus on what's really important.

Synopsis

[edit]

Hot Shot's impatiently waiting for their next practice rescue as he only needs another point to reach the top of the leader board. The other recruits are less impressed at the achievement, pointing out there's no crown for being king of the leader board. Heatwave finally calls them to Hero Hall, though Hot Shot is late as the other recruits have challenged him to hop there on one finger. Today's lesson is to fight the battles you can win, though the recruits aren't sure how this works.

The sim starts with the recruits in front of a house in snowy terrain with no threat in sight. They're just reassuring the inhabitants of the house, when a giant wall of ice appears, moving slowly towards the house. Hot Shot attempts to stop the wall physically, but even with the other Bots helping, the wall doesn't stop and, in fact, manages to swallow Hot Shot as it moves. The sim fails, but Hot Shot thinks this time he has a plan. On their second attempt, the recruits try to break up the ice, but again fail. Medix brings up information on ice waves, but finds that no one has managed to stop one. Hot Shot is determined, but two more attempts to divert the course of the ice wave fail as Medix correctly predicts, as does Hot Shot's attempt to melt the ice.

The recruits check with Heatwave to make sure they haven't misunderstood the aim of the exercise however Hot Shot has already realized where they were going wrong. On the next attempt, he and the other recruits pull the humans from their house so they're safe. Hot Shot, however, comes up with another plan and they have Heatwave rerun the sim, this time the recruits lift the entire house off its foundations and carry it to safety.

Quotes

[edit]

"OK everyone, be ready for anything. We are taking this sim down."
[nothing happens]
"Maybe there's a ferocious snow tiger or something loose in the house that we need to capture."

Hot Shot is almost ready for anything.

"It's really quite incredible. You appear to be having no effect on the wave whatsoever!"

Medix

"We can do this! We just need to follow three clear steps: one, planning; two, throw everything we've got at it; three, write my name at the top of the leaderboard. Okay?"

Hot Shot has some ideas on how to conquer the sim.

Notes

[edit]

Real-world references

[edit]
  • An ice wave—or frozen wave—is a real thing, and as depicted in the episode, genuinely cannot be stopped. However, they're far less towering and much slower moving than shown. Because of the force they exert, they can certainly damage or destroy structures.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The Ancient Autobot text on Medix's diagram of the area seems to be fragmented and as in "Trick or Treat" makes reference to the Galax from "Big Small Rescue".
  • Heatwave's comment that "no one ever thought of doing that before" is kind of strange given this is the first class of Rescue Bot recruits.
