The cyclone cannon is a distinctive, four-barrelled Decepticon weapon, most prominently carried by Thunderwing.
Fiction

[edit]
As a test of his suitability to become Decepticon leader, Thunderwing was sent to Earth to hunt down three Autobot prisoners with his cyclone cannon. Although he was successful in taking down Playback and Horsepower, the third, Hosehead, was saved by Nightbeat and Siren who set Thunderwing on fire, knocking him and his cyclone cannon into the sea. The Big Shutdown! When he emerged a short while later, he was still carrying the gun and in a furious rage he beat up and then requisitioned Ruckus, Crankcase, Flamefeather, Windsweeper, and Quake for an assault on the Ark. Rage! Thanks to his trusty cyclone cannon, Thunderwing single-handedly blasted his way into the Ark and was about to fire it at Optimus Prime before Ruckus (and the weight of return fire from the Autobots) convinced him to withdraw. Returning to Cybertron, he laid the cyclone cannon at the feet of the Decepticon High Council who had been impressed by his performance, and so granted him leadership of the Decepticons. Assault on the Ark!
During the Matrix Quest, Thunderwing and his team of Ruckus, Spinister, Needlenose, and Windsweeper tracked Nightbeat, Hosehead, and Siren to the planet Pz-Zazz where he ambushed them, blasting them with his cyclone cannon. Bird of Prey! He then carried it with him to confront Override, Dogfight, and Backstreet on Cheyne but ultimately left without firing it once he realised they were under the control of Vrobian psychic vampires. Notes
[edit]
- The four-barrelled design of Thunderwing's cyclone cannon is unique to his appearances in the Marvel comics and likely originated from his unpublished character model, as it looks nothing like any of his toy's weapons. It even made an oddly shoulder-mounted appearance on the cover of US issue #63, despite barely appearing in the issue itself.
- Thunderwing's Dreamwave More than Meets the Eye profile switches out his toy's heat-seeking laser blasters for cyclone cannons and its cyclone cannon for a laser cannon.
