"From Yesterday to Today" is an adventure scenario for the Transformers Roleplaying Game. In this adventure, a group of 4-6 Autobots contend with Barrage and his minions as the Decepticons head underground in search of Primal Energon. This scenario can be played using original characters or with the pregenerated character sheets provided in the booklet.

Part 1: A Necessary Field Trip

On the Ark, Optimus Prime briefs a team of Autobots on the latest crisis: a team of Decepticons have besieged the Royal Oak Farming Co-Op, only a few hours away from Autobot headquarters. Before passing the team off to Perceptor, Prime explains that the Autobots have already allied with Theresa Rambeau, a local scientist on the property who can potentially help keep the existence of the Transformers under wraps. In the launch bay, Perceptor explains that their mission is to take out the Decepticons and figure out what it is they're looking for.

While on the road, the Autobots attract the attention of the Decepticon scout Chemtrail, who has been specifically posted to keep an eye for incoming Autobots. If they're able to detect her approach, the Autobots may choose to hide amidst the nearby terrain, or turn the tables on their attacker by luring her into an ambush; allowing Chemtrail to escape means that the Decepticons at the farm are forewarned of the Autobots' approach.

When the heroes arrive at the farming co-op, they immediately run afoul of a group of Decepticons—Cricket, Deergren, Compost, and Ranch Hand—who have been tearing the grounds apart in search of something valuable. Taking down half of the Decepticons causes the other half to flee, and their flight allows the Autobots to rescue the humans who'd been imprisoned in the factory. However, as they retreat, the Decepticons warn the Autobots that they're too late, and that they've already got the energon they came for...

Part 2: Scratching the Surface

After the Autobots reassure the humans of their good intentions, Theresa explains what's been going on: after she invented a new device to analyze soil samples, her device picked up unusual radiation samples on a new part of the farm; radar scans revealed a large network of underground tunnels. When the Decepticons arrived, one of their number took a swarm of robotic insects with him to seize a cache of "Primal Energon", leaving the others to patrol the farm. The Autobots may choose to either plunge ahead into the tunnels or look for another way to navigate the underground labyrinth, in which case they may work with Theresa or Perceptor to modify her soil-sampling machine into an effective underground sounding device before heading underground.

After dealing with the security guards posted at the entrance to the tunnel, the Autobots may examine their surroundings to discover that the Decepticons have indeed uncovered a rich vein of Primal Energon, meaning that they may very well be on track to acquire a dangerous weapon in their war against the Autobots.

Part 3: Buried Treasure

After heading underground, the Autobots discover that the Insecticons have been hard at work digging out the underground, leaving behind a confusing maze of tunnels, dead ends, and backtracks. The party must carefully work their way through the underground, dealing with various threats—cave-ins, tight tunnels, and various rogue Insecticon drones—before finally stumbling into the final chamber of the tunnel network. Inside, Barrage and his minions have already begun turning the raw Primal Energon into its concentrated cube form. However, the cave also contains an unexpected ally: the half-buried Dinobot Slash! in stasis. Using the concentrated Primal Energon, one of the heroes can attempt to reactivate Slash, which sends her into an unstoppable battle frenzy.

If Barrage wins the final battle, he and his minions escape with their energon, which the Decepticons will assuredly use to further their own malevolent experiments. Regardless of whether or not the heroes triumph, however, they will have to find a way to convince Slash to return to the Ark with them, bringing back any remaining supplies of Primal Energon. There, Slash has a happy reunion with Grimlock, who tells the group that they're now trusted allies.

Continuity notes

• The optional pregenerated character sheets reuse the profiles of the Bee Team—Breakout, Downforce, Oversteer, Scattershield, Shakedown, and Skidplate—rookie Autobots who'd previously appeared in the "Winner's Cup" adventure.
• Primal Energon previously featured in Renegade’s "The Time is Now" adventure.

Transformers references

• The text suggests that Shockwave will use his newly-procured supplies of Primal Energon to create "Predacons", evoking the activities of his "Aligned" counterpart in the Prime cartoon. While the "Generation 1" combiner team has been said to exist within the world of the Transformers Roleplaying Game, it's ambiguous if the text is referring to them or the prehistoric dragon creatures from Prime.

Real-world references

• The book opens with a famous quote from science fiction author [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Larry Niven|{{#if:||Larry Niven}}]]: “The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn’t have a space program.”

Errors

• Chemtrail's profile sheet reuses art of Blazewake from “The Time is Now”. However, the text describes her as bright red.
• Strictly speaking, the Insecticon Drones's skills don't match up with their Essence Scores. The Insecticon Drone - Beetle is based on the core rulebook's Insecticon Drone, but has added Specializations in its Might and Targeting Skills. This gives it 6 ranks in Strength Skills, and 4 ranks in Speed Skills, while it has only 5 Strength and 3 Speed. Similarly, the Insecticon Drone - Locust's skills include four ranks of Speed Skills while only having a 3 in Speed.
