Snake Eyes versus Quick Kick!

Synopsis

In the dojo aboard Lemuria, Snake Eyes goes about discarding all his weapons so that he can face Quick Kick in a one-on-one martial arts match. The fight is ultimately unimportant—even if Snake Eyes wins, it's not going to stop Scarlett sending both him and Agent Helix to the brig for disobeying orders—but Quick Kick is eager to prove once and for all that he is the superior fighter. As the match commences, Quick Kick dodges Snake Eyes first attacks and lands a kick to his head, but the ninja-commando comes back strong, delivering some solid punches, and slicing Quick Kick's jacket with a concealed knife. Quick Kick discards the jacket, which turns out to have been a weighted training garment; without it, his speed increases, and he launches a fresh attack armed with a bladed staff. Snake Eyes dodges, snaps the staff in two, and kicks Quick Kick's feet out from under him, but when he attempts to pin him, Quick Kick gets him in a hold that cuts off his breathing. Still, Snake Eyes powers through, lifting Quick Kick and slamming him hard on the ground to break the hold. The ninja retrieves his katana, but Quick Kicks deflects his sword strikes with a set of iron rings, disarming Snake Eyes and bringing him to his knees. As his fist streaks forward to deliver the crushing final blow, Scarlett orders him to stop. He complies, and Snake Eyes surrenders, Quick Kick having finally proven himself to be the best there is.

Deep underground, the members of Roadlblock's team say their farewells to Rock 'n Roll before he makes his sacrifice play detonating an explosive cache that will collapse the cavern from which the Fatal Fluffies originate. With Skywarp as his back up, Rock charges in loud and proud, blasting through the Fluffies and planting the explosives while his Transformer teammate holds the monsters off. Despite his previous promise that he would be abandoning Rock at the last minute to save his own metal skin, Skywarp has a change of heart and decides to stay by Rock's side as he activates the detonator. As the explosion consumes Rock, Skywarp, and the cavern, the other Joes pull out, heading back to Lemuria, as Roadblock eulogizes the pair and credits their heroism.

In the city of The Hague, in the Netherlands, Duke personally escorts the Baroness and Crystal Ball to international criminal court in an armored car. The Baroness seems unconcerned... and rightly so, as suddenly, a mob of Cobranarchists descends upon their transport, setting off homemade explosives all around it! The explosions send the city into chaos, but there are heroes on hand to save the day: footballer "Spitfire" Shah even kicks one of the improvised explosives into the air, where it detonates harmlessly. Things do not go so well for Duke, unfortunately, when he disembarks the armored car to deal with the situation head on. When a woman calls for help saving a man pinned beneath some rubble, Duke charges to the rescue... only to discover as he lifts the debris that the two seemingly innocent bystanders are actually Dreadnok twins Zarana and Zandar! Caught by surprise, Duke finds his left arm slashed by bladed projectiles launched by Zarana's weapon. The twins leave Duke lying in the wreckage as they are joined by the other Dreadnoks, and together, they surround the armored car and demand the prisoners he turned over to them!

Errors

  • The art on page 8 depicts the Baroness as suddenly having her left hand free of her cuffs in the space of one panel. This doesn't seem to have been part of the script; no reference is made to it in dialogue, and in the next issue, she has both hands bound and is heard demanding to be uncuffed.
  • She's also sporting some outrageous wedge heels on her prison jumpsuit, which is very on brand for the Baroness, but... c'mon.
