Known as an urban legend until recent times, the phantom racer known as Shadowstrip hailed from the "G2 Universe"<ref>Takara Tomy's official description</ref> and made a surprise appearance in the second week of the Speedia 500 to determine the leader of Velocitron. Bragging of having the power of shadow and becoming stronger in darkness, Shadowstrip shot out the lights in the tunnel he was traversing to disorientate the other racers, but he was caught in a chasm created by his rival, Crasher. He was climbing up the crack when he saw Galaxy Shuttle effortlessly fly over it and go on to win the race. Velocitron Speedia 500 Part 3

Released in the second wave of Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Deluxes (which only barely eked out to brick-and-mortar in the US), "G2 Universe Shadowstrip" is a redeco of Legacy Decepticon Dragstrip, done in the colors of the cancelled Generation 2 figure from 1994. The differences between the Generation 2 toy and Shadowstrip are the increased usage of gold paint, less usage of blue paint, and golden flag tampographs on his sides. Shadowstrip comes with two blasters, like Dragstrip. Despite not being called out in the instructions, Shadowstrip can still form an arm for Menasor.

The Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection was exclusive to Walmart in the US, with Hasbro Pulse receiving limited quantities of the figure. The series was a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive in Japan, and a K-Mart exclusive in New Zealand.
