The 2019 IDW continuity is IDW Publishing's reboot of its ongoing Transformers series as a whole after the 2005 IDW continuity concluded in November 2018 with the Unicron mini-series. This new iteration of IDW's Transformers mythos follows its predecessor by taking place within the Generation 1 continuity family, and features the return of multiple of IDW-original concepts and characters mined from the prior universe and tweaked to fit into this new universe. The continuity came to a conclusion in 2022 due to IDW's loss of the Transformers license.
Unusually for a Transformers story, which generally begin in medias res with the Autobot-Decepticon conflict well underway, this continuity opens just before the outbreak of the Great War—the first story to do so since 2010's Exodus novel.
Main titles
[edit]
Transformers
[edit]The primary ongoing comic written by Brian Ruckley, Transformers opens on a peaceful, egalitarian Cybertron rocked by the first murder in living memory—a murder with far-reaching repercussions for both Senator Orion Pax, his allies, and Megatron, the conflicted leader of the self-styled Ascenticons.
Transformers: Galaxies
[edit]Transformers: Galaxies is a spiritual successor of sorts to the Spotlight series that helped to flesh out the original IDW continuity. An anthology of side stories, each arc features a new creative team telling stories set far away from Cybertron.
Transformers: Escape
[edit]The Transformers: Escape mini-series details Nautica, Wheeljack, and Hound's race to evacuate Cybertron's civilian population amidst civil war.
Wreckers—Tread & Circuits
[edit]
Tread & Circuits introduces the fan-favorite Wreckers into the continuity, and re-imagines the team as an Autobot black ops unit who disguise themselves as thrill-seeking daredevils.
Transformers: War's End
[edit]The four issue War's End mini-series focuses on the return of Exarchon, an ancient villain from Cybertron's past.
Other releases
[edit]Transformers Valentine's Day Special — a romance-themed one-shot released in February 2020.
Transformers Halloween Special — a horror-themed one-shot released in October 2021.
Transformers: Fate of Cybertron — a series-concluding one-shot released in June 2022.
Collected editions
[edit]Eschewing the standard trade paperback format, this continuity is primarily being collected in larger hardcovers, each containing twelve issues for the MSRP of $50 USD. From the second volume onwards, these collections mix together issues of both the main Transformers and the mini-series title that was being published at the time, collecting the entire continuity in both under a single banner and in publication order from the very start.

Notes
[edit]- 2019 IDW media features a staggering level of toy accuracy, as a result of general agreement among artists to use contemporary toy designs as a consistent and accessible source of reference material.
- Every character based on a Targetmaster, Micromaster, Titan Master, or Battle Master toy exists as a regular-sized Transformer in this universe.
- Frenzy is blue, Rumble is red.
- Skywarp, Bombshell, and Cyclonus are all separate individuals.
