Starscream's greatest dreams appear to have come true...or have they?

Synopsis

[edit]

On the ruined streets of Detroit, Starscream stands atop the piled corpses of the Autobots, cackling with glee at their defeat. Lugnut and Blitzwing hail him as the supreme Decepticon leader, praising his brilliance and might. Later, Starscream sits upon the Decepticon throne. Blackarachnia, who is chained up by Starscream, eagerly offers to bring him an energon snack or a motor oil beverage. Starscream declines, as that duty falls to his personal servant: Megatron, who has brought Starscream refreshments while profusely apologizing for ever doubting his potential for leadership. As Starscream enjoys his oil, drifting off to sleep while Blackarachnia massages him, a voice echoes, telling him to wake up...

The feel of Megatron's cannon striking his head rouses Starscream, who has been enjoying a stasis nap in Megatron's throne, and he awakens to find the other Decepticons staring down angrily at him. Megatron chastises him for falling asleep during a staff meeting and threatens to make his stasis permanent next time, leaving Starscream in an awkward panic.

Quotes

[edit]

"All hail the greatness that is Starscream! Let the galaxy tremble before his awesome power!"

Lugnut remains fanatical as ever, no matter his master

Icy Blitzwing: Oh, clearly Starscream's ze only logical choice as leader.
Hothead Blitzwing: And I will scramble ze circuits of any bot zat questions his absolute authority!
Random Blitzwing: Who would be crazy enough to do zat? I just don't know how to know!

—For once, Blitzwing's personalities are in agreement.

"Oh wise and beneficent Starscream, how could I ever have doubted your leadership abilities? Please forgive me for taking so long to wake up...wake up...wake up...wake up...wake up...WAKE UP!"

Megatron's sycophancy nicely transitions into the end of Starscream's dream.

Notes

[edit]

Continuity errors

[edit]
  • Like "Starscream Heckles Megatron", this short doesn't quite gel with the show's continuity due to the real-world segments taking place in the Decepticons' mine base from Season 2, by which point Starscream had gone rogue and was no longer working with Megatron.

Real-world references

[edit]
  • Blackarachnia being bound to Starscream by a chain around her neck is more than a bit evocative of Princess Leia and Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi.

Trivia

[edit]
  • For 15 years, this short and "Logo" remained unreleased in any form, having only been screened for the Animated panels at BotCon 2009 and BotCon 2012. For many years, the only publicly-available details on both shorts were those printed in The AllSpark Almanac II. However, the finer details of the short and the screenshot above were obtained for this article thanks to Transformers content creator Keyan Carlile, who had been given a private screening and personal copy of the shorts by Marty Isenberg at TFCon Los Angeles 2022, on the condition that the shorts themselves not be publicly distributed... UNTIL August 22nd, 2022 when a post about the lost shorts from Twitter user "Crazy Ass Moments in Transformers History" gained heavy traction, prompting Keyan to ask Marty to reconsider his stance on distribution. Marty relented, and Keyan publicly uploaded the shorts on August 23rd, 2022, finally losing their lost media status!
  • Somehow, this is the only time in the show's entire run that Lugnut refers to Starscream by name.
