Generations Selects is a franchise for higher-end, collector-oriented Transformers figures under the banner of the Generations mega-brand introduced by Hasbro and TakaraTomy in 2019 following the end of Fun Publications' and e-HOBBY's respective tenures as part of the overall initiative towards global brand unification. While the bulk of the toyline continues to see global distribution unabated, the "TakaraTomy-initiated" arm of the franchise wrapped in 2021, with future TakaraTomy exclusives shunted to the Premium Finish and New Legends imprints.

Toys

The Hasbro-initiated majority of Generations Selects largely follows on from the precedent set by Fun Publications' Timelines toyline; featuring redecoes and retools of pre-existing War for Cybertron Trilogy and occasionally Prime Wars Trilogy molds, typically representing lesser-known Transformers characters. TakaraTomy's portion of the toyline, meanwhile, followed on from the precedent set by their various "EX" exclusives, with high-budget retools reshelling large portions of the original toys (Power of the Primes Moonracer into Generations Selects Tentakil replaced about 90% of the original mold, for example) and a particularly heavy focus on combiners, reusing the base molds from Power of the Primes several times over to create a sort of loose sequel to Unite Warriors. The TakaraTomy-initiated portion of the line would prove somewhat short-lived, with Takara-exclusive redecoes and retools moving over to the Japan-exclusive Premium Finish label beginning in 2021.

Fiction

TakaraTomy published a webcomic called Generations Selects Special Comic to promote their contributions to the toyline, hosted in the TakaraTomy Mall listings for the toys themselves. This strip showcased the adventures of a time lost Optimus Prime and Galvatron in the mysterious world of an organization known as the "Primus Vanguard" in a plot that would eventually snowball into the grand finale of TakaraTomy's 2010s pack-in fiction both retail and exclusive.
