Autobots and Maximals join forces to search for a mysterious treasure.

Synopsis

[edit]

Bumblebee and Arcee are rolling out through the jungle in search of a mysterious energy signal detected by a (glasses-wearing) Wheeljack. Arcee spots a gorilla and cheetah and stops to pet the adorable animals, but much to her shock the two animals transform into Optimus Primal and Cheetor! The two Maximals are also looking for the same energy signal, having been alerted to it by their resident scientist Rhinox. The two factions decide to work together to find the treasure, braving an impossibly difficult journey wading through swamps and scaling tall cliffs.

The quartet soon come across an old and decomposing rope bridge. Cheetor attempts to use his speed and race across to the other side, but the wooden boards give way under his feet, causing him to get stuck halfway across. The other Autobots and Maximals attempt to rescue him by forming a robot-chain, but their weight makes the bridge give out entirely, dropping them all into the river below... which immediately leads into a truly terrifying waterfall! With not enough time to swim ashore, the four Transformers are sent plunging off the waterfall (with a completely nonchalant Arcee even taking a selfie!)

Some time later, Bumblebee regains consciousness to the sound of Arcee's voice. As it turns out, the river has carried them straight to their destination: an ancient subterranean temple!

Notes

[edit]

Continuity notes

[edit]
  • This issue provides explicit confirmation that for all its deference to the original Beast Wars cartoon elsewhere, the comic's Beast Wars cast exist alongside the Generation 1 characters in the present day, without any indication of the convoluted timeline (or dramatic size differences) of the cartoon.

Transformers references

[edit]
  • This adventure starring Bumblebee, Arcee, Primal and Cheetor in a hunt for mysterious treasure in the heart of the jungle is a pretty transparent pastiche of the blockbuster film Rise of the Beasts, which premiered in Japan a couple weeks prior and which Go! Go! has been plugging all year.
  • In a particular cheeky nod to the film, Wheeljack cameos in this issue inexplicably wearing the glasses of his live-action counterpart.
