Fiction

Prime cartoon

Sou only appears in the Arms Micron Theater segments of the Japanese broadcast of Prime.
Voice actor: Kensō Katō (Japanese)

Sou was part of a group of Arms Microns who asked the master of the Arms Micron-style Weapon Link Dojo about the secret behind ultimate weapon-linking. Once the master revealed to them that there wasn't much to it but attaching to one another, he tried it and combined with O.P., B.B., Shining R.A., B.H., Arc, and Arc S, resulting in the Samurai Sword Mode. With all that said and done, Sou and Arc S began wondering who each other was.

For some reason, Sou referred to O.P. as "professor", which confused the latter. Recovery Transformation! Battle in the Metropolis Underground

In the final moments of Arms Micron Theater, Sou joined the rest of the Arms Microns in saying thank you and goodbye to their audience. Ultimate Transformation! Fight! Transformers

Toys

Prime

A needle pulling thread.
  • Autobot Swerve (Voyager, 2012)
  • Set ID number: AM-17
  • Release date: August 25, 2012
  • Micron ID number: M-21
  • Energon Crystal: HP Magne
Released in the sixth wave of the main TakaraTomy Prime toyline, Sou transforms from a humanoid robot into a circular saw weapon with a free-spinning blade. He has numerous 5mm posts and holes that allow him to combine with other Arms Microns to form any number of "Combo Weapons" and "Super Combo Weapons".
Only available packed in with the Japan-only Swerve toy, Sou comes out of the package as a bunch of unpainted parts on runners, like a model kit. Extra deco is supplied by customer-applied foil stickers on a sheet he shares with Swerve.
This mold was also used to make Gan and Frenzy.

Notes

  • Sou's name seems to be one of those multi-layer cross-language puns Japan seems to love so much, and as such, is very... confusing to English-speakers, and a bear to romanize. It's meant to be evocative of "S.W.", which is the common method of naming Autobot pack-in Arms Microns (as his partner is SWerve), but like Wuji, is pronounced as the sounds the two letters make rather than the names of the letters (as is done with O.P.). But of course, since Japanese doesn't really have a proper "w" phoneme, they gotta kinda sorta approximate it with the ウ ("u"). Effectively, "So-oo".
    • And, of course, there's that ソウ is a not-incorrect way of spelling "saw" in kana. But they also use "ソー" for "saw" pretty interchangeably. And none of the other pack-in Autobot Microns are named after what they turn into, so we ain't going with "Saw".
  • Sou's forearms are tank treads, indicating he could fold up into some kind of vehicle. However, there is no way to lay those treads down and have his saw still be functional in any useful capacity. Either the saw can't get positioned "forward" or something keeps the treads from laying flat on the ground.
