Comedy Beast Wars

Synopsis

Megatron readied his Laser Buster to take out Optimus Primal, but his tyrannosaurus head failed to deliver as it was feeling unwell. After a moment of confusion for all around, the head let out a massive burp. Megatron apologized, explaining it was because he drank too much cola shortly before battle. Scorponok remarked that based on the smell, he must have had gyōza with it.

The Kindhearted Megatron♡

Synopsis

Megatron berated Scorponok for Terrorsaur's injuries, telling him to be mindful of his comrades. While Scorponok apologized and Terrorsaur felt loved, it started to rain, so Megatron grabbed Terrorsaur by the legs and held him up like an umbrella for him and Scorponok. Terrorsaur tried to ask about all that mindfulness talk from before but Megatron ordered his umbrella to shut up.

Terrorsaur's Cunning

Synopsis

Terrorsaur challenged Scorponok to rock paper scissors for the role of second-in-command. Perhaps not as quietly as he intended, Terrorsaur gloated to himself that the idiotic Scorponok could only play scissors, so he'd play rock and win. The plan carried as far as Terrorsaur thought of, but what he hadn't considered was the possibility of Scorponok firing a missile from his pincher. As Terrorsaur suffered the impact, Scorponok asked who the stupid one was now.

Tara-tara-taransu

Synopsis

While at work with Terrorsaur and Megatron, Tarantulas realized he'd caught a cold and before he could help himself a sneeze welled up. With a devastating blow, it came out and covered the room and its occupants in a web of mucus. Megatron angrily yelled at the apologetic Tarantulas that his runny nose was too much.

Shiritori Fight

Synopsis

Dinobot, Rhinox, and Rattrap played a game of shiritori. Rattrap said sammaimo, Rhinox answered with "Moscow", and Dinobot continued from there with warumonogao ("villain face"). His mistake was pulling a villain face for effect because it caused Rattrap to fart in fright. Onara ("fart") became his reply to Dinbot, which was followed by Rhinox shouting Rattlekuse ("Rattrap's habit"). Thoroughly disgusted, Dinobot activated his cyber-slash tail weapon and determinedly uttered senpūki ("electric fan") while aiming it at Rattrap.

Brain-Bare New Year

Synopsis

On New Year's Eve, Rattrap got all dressed up to thank the Beast Wars fans for their support and to express his enthusiasm for 1998. Forgetting for a moment that he was in robot mode, he wished everyone a happy new year and bowed. His brains consequently fell out. As Rattrap's health rapidly deteriated, Optimus Primal came to his rescue, reminding him not to bow in robot mode.

Cheetor, Beast Mode!!

Synopsis

Optimus Primal ordered Cheetor to turn into his cheetah mode and the latter promptly activated his transformation process. The result, however, was not a cheetah, but the singer Kiyoko Suizenji, whose nickname was Cheetah. She began to sing and Optimus Primal berated the comic writer for making a joke that children in elementary school wouldn't understand.

Notes

Real world references

  • Shiritori is a game in which each participant has to say a word that starts with the letter another participant ended on. The game is a little more difficult in Japanese than in English because Japanese kana are almost always composite sounds.
  • On New Year's Eve, Rattrap sits next to a kagami mochi. The card behind him read gashou (賀正), a New Year's greeting equivalent to "A Happy New Year!".
  • Rattrap's brain falling out when he makes a polite bow takes inspiration from the need for a kappa to always have the plate on its head filled with water and the go-to way to get rid of a kappa by tricking it into politely bowing so it'll spill the water.
  • Kiyoko Suizenji is an enka singer and actress who was mostly active from the 1960s to the 1980s, although she did put out some work in the early 1990s. She holds a fan with 大勝負 on it, which is the title of a single she released in November of 1970. Of this song, she sings the first line Hitotsu otoko wa kataneba narame (ひとつ男は勝たねばならめ "One man must win").

Trivia

  • Yoshihiko Ōhashi uses their penname Uriah~Ohashi (うおりゃ~大橋 (おおはし)).
  • The first comic is structured differently than the other six, taking up a whole page on its own. It does not have a title of its own and instead shares in the collective title
  • The Japanese names of the yonkoma are:
    • Yasashī Megatron-sama♡ (やさしいメがトロンさま♡ "The Kindhearted Megatron♡")
    • Nōmiso-Mukidashi no Shōgatsu ( (のう)みそむきだしの正月 (しょうがつ) "Brain-Bare New Year")
    • Chītasu, bīsuto mōdo!! (チータス、ビーストモード!!! Cheetor, Beast Mode!!")
