The name or term "Blackout" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Blackout (disambiguation).
Blackout is a Decepticon from Overgear.
Now... REAP THE WHIRLWIND!

Blackout (ブラックアウト Burakkuauto) is one of the Decepticons hiding within the Global Order Authority, transforming into one of their helicopters, he acts as Airborne Commander for Decepticon operations on Earth. Blackout's cool and calculated methods contribute to his impressively high mission success rate, so high, in fact, that almost no one has encountered Blackout and lived to tell the tale. His wing-mounted armory comes equipped with missiles for every kind of target, and his back-mounted radar gives him a tactical advantage over the battlefield, which, combined with his high-powered scope, allows him to pick off targets from a distance with his powerful armor-piercing War Rifle.

So... Grindor repaint? Or would Chopter be more thematic?
  • Blackout (ブラックアウト, 2026)
  • ID number: OG-02
  • Release date: October 2026
  • Accessories: "Strategos MK.II War Rifle", 2 "Desolator AMG" missile racks, 2 "Gaddabout 70mm" rocket pods, "Outthrow" FCR dome, nose-mounted gun, tail rotor
  • Known designers: Yūkiya Amano
Part of the first wave of the Overgear line, Blackout is a roughly Voyager-sized figure that transforms into an advanced attack helicopter of made-up model, with the cockpit seemingly inspired by the Agusta A129 Mangusta. His robot mode is a radical departure from previous incarnations of the character, though the head has some vague similarities with his live-action counterpart, and the main rotors, as well as the front of the helicopter, end up in the same place. His front canopy hides a targeting scope that can be extended up in front of his robot mode head. Blackout features extensive paint applications, including various caution/danger markings, a GOA logo behind the cockpit, and a tail code that reads "GOA 07MD01". His robot mode's Decepticon insignias are hidden inside the fuselage in helicopter mode.
He comes armed with an assault rifle, a pair of missile racks, and a pair of rocket pods. His assault rifle has several ports that can be used to modify the weapon with various accessories from the line. Despite his tail rotor being removable, its post is unfortunately not the right size to recreate his live-action counterpart's arm-mounted blade weapon.
Like all Overgear figures, Blackout is loaded with 5 mm and 3 mm ports (31 in total), allowing him to be armed up with the various weapons and equipment from other figures in the line to enter an "OVERGEAR" state.
Blackout was one of the first Overgear figures revealed, alongside his wavemate Ironhide.

Notes

  • Blackout was chosen as the first Decepticon in the Overgear line because the character is a favorite of designer Yūkiya Amano and because an airborne Decepticon acted as a nice foil to the terrestrial Ironhide.[1]
  • Blackout's "high-performance scope" that unfolds from his chest is possibly a reference to the briefly seen chest cannon that the live-action movie Blackout deployed during his assault on the SOCCENT base in Qatar.
  • One could hazard a guess that Blackout's tail number "07MD01" might stand for "2007 Movie Decepticon 01", as Blackout was the first Decepticon seen on screen in the 2007 movie, though this is purely speculation.
