While responding to a distress call from Cygnus Seven, Uhura was unable to contact the mining outpost on the planet, as subspace transmissions were being blocked by unknown interference. Prime's Directive, Part One

After a run-in with Trypticon had crippled the Enterprise, Uhura broadcasted a distress signal to no avail before she picked up a transmission from Captain Kirk aboard a duplicate of the Enterprise.
