Template:Ew-char

An attempt to create a right-floating template to list relevant attributes of Earth Wars characters. The information is collapsed so as to not create excessive whitespace in the text around it.

Contains the following parameters:

• name= The character's name. Can be left blank, but probably helpful for characters who are represented twice and can be listed separately, like G1 Optimus Prime/Orion Pax.
• image= Image to be inserted using regular syntax. Upright=1.66 and centered works best. Optional, in the event of no available image.
• vertical= Experimental parameter for images that are thinner than they are tall. Relocates the information boxes to the left of the image. Probably best deprecated.
• link= For adding an external link to the bottom of the template. Uses plaintext; URL and "(character) at Transformers: Earth Wars Wiki" must be added by yourself.

The following information parameters:

• faction= Accepts any text, but probably best to stick or Autobot or Decepticon.
• unit= Standard/Combiner/C.O.M.B.A.T./Weapon/Prime (Titan will be a separate template). Will not render without Faction.
• star= The minimum star rating available for a character. "star" is included by default; just enter a number between 1 and 5.
• class= The character's Class in plaintext: Warrior/Aerial/Gunner/Medic/Special/Triple Changer for Standard bots, Companion/Melee/Shield/Range for C.O.M.B.A.T.s.
• specialclass= Deployer/Leader/Scout, which were retired from the game and rolled into Special.
• collection= The character's Collection.
• combiner= If the character is a component of a Combiner.
• components= If the character is a Combiner, list the components.
• behavior= A description of how the character attacks. Currently listed as "Weapon" on certain pages but should probably be replaced due to the introduction of Weapon unit type.
• ability= The name of the character's ability or first ability of multiple.
• abilitydesc= A collapsed description of the ability. Required if the ability parameter is used.
• cost= The cost of using the ability. Optional.
• cooldown= The cooldown after using the ability. Optional.
• ability2= The name of the character's second ability. Using this parameter automatically changes the row heading from "Ability" to "Abilities".

• passivedesc= A collapsed description of the passive ability. If the ability has no name, use this instead of the passive parameter.
• combats= What type of C.O.M.B.A.T. Bots the character is compatible with: Companion/Melee/Shield/Ranged.
• cores= The character's Bot Specific Power Cores. Bulleted lists only work with a whole line break between them?

And the following meta information parameters, which render under a separate heading:

• date= The date the character was added to the game. Will not display without counterpart parameter.
• counterpart= The character's counterpart on the opposite faction.
• skins= Plaintext field to enter images and titles. Has its own collapsible toggle (which does not work on this version of MediaWiki, but should if/when we update) and a scroll function. Bulletpoints between skins and upright=1.5 (or smaller) and centered images work best. Same as with Power Cores, bullet lists behave weird.

Result

This was put together in the early days of the template, for characters who have a portrait or square image. It was supposed to save space at the time, but as the number of parameters in the template increased, this seemed like more of a waste of time. Discuss?
