Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is the video game adaptation of the film of the same name for the Wii and PS2. It was developed by Krome Studios and shares a few developers with the earlier Armada-based game, due to Krome's acquisition of Melbourne House (the developers of said game) in 2006.[1] The two games are considerably different from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, even using different gameplay. It was panned by critics because of limited transformation, linear levels and repetitive gameplay.
Synopsis
[edit]With Megatron destroyed, Optimus Prime and the Autobots have begun fighting off the remaining Decepticons. However, Starscream and his master are not going down without a fight...
In space, an innocent satellite is just floating around when mysterious, alien satellite docks with it. Quickly, Soundwave locates a NEST convoy and orders Sideways and Demolishor to intercept. Sideways steals the convoy's cargo, while Demolishor causes destruction.
Chapter 1: Optimus Invades
[edit]- Character: Optimus Prime
Meanwhile, the Decepticons have taken control of a NEST gun and are firing at planes. Two Autobot fighter jets go down, but before the large transport plane explodes, Optimus Prime leaps out. As he falls toward Shanghai, Decepticon ranged warriors intercept him. While Optimus is firing at them with his light weapons, the NEST gun continues firing at him. And on top of all that, ground-based Decepticons are firing huge missiles. When Prime defeats the warriors, a ranged lieutenant takes him on. After defeating him, three more warriors come at him, so he cuts one in half, and quickly dispatches of the other two. He then lands and orders the Autobots to report. Bumblebee is chasing Sideways, and Ironhide is on Demolishor's tail.
Chapter 2: Ironhide vs. Demolishor
[edit]- Character: Ironhide
Ironhide blows up and smashes his way through numerous Decepticon drones, eventually jumping between walls onto a rooftop and winning a shootout with Decepticon long range warriors. Ironhide jumps off the building onto the street, toppling a tower crane with his light weapon as Demolishor is under it. This knocks Demolishor into a pit, where he appears to be digging for something. Ironhide takes out Demolishor's top wheel and finally kills the larger Decepticon with three punches to the head.
Chapter 3: Pursuit Over Shanghai
[edit]- Character: Bumblebee
Bumblebee transforms and calls for assistance, warning that he's found Sideways. As he runs through the city streets, several Decepticon soldiers swoop down and open fire. Returning fire, Bumblebee ducks behind a bus, which explodes. As he continues, Bumblebee finds that Sideways is on top of the taller buildings of the city. Leaping from wall to wall, Bumblebee reaches the top of a tower and dispatches two more Air Warriors. As he continues atop the buildings, Bumblebee blasts any Decepticon in his way and finally reaches Sideways...
Chapter 4: Sideways Goes to Ground
[edit]- Character: Sideways
...who calls Soundwave, asking for a little help. Bumblebee replies that Sideways will need a lot of help, as he is close enough to hear his whining transmission. Sideways transforms and races through Shanghai's busy streets. As he is about to escape from Bumblebee, Sideways is intercepted by a fire truck, which transforms into an Autobot warrior. Transforming into robot form, Sideways returns fire and ends the miserable Autobot's life. As more Autobots intercept Sideways, Soundwave has sends backup, with waves of Decepticons assaulting the Autobots. Inches from Sideways, Bumblebee transforms and Sideways is carried away by Starscream. Growling, Bumblebee turns to Optimus and apologizes, saying that they got away...
Chapter 5: Starscream Strikes
[edit]- Character: Starscream
Starscream launches an attack on aircraft carriers, deployed to destroy generators powering the shields that defend the main platform tower of NEST that conserves the crushed Decepticon leader Megatron. Air Warriors attack Starscream, forcing them to flee or he will destroy them. Then Starscream blows up the generators allowing Sideways to enter.
Chapter 6: From the Depths
[edit]- Character: Sideways
With the naval fleet now decimated, Sideways enters the platform, deployed to enter and destroy power generators. He infiltrates and revives Megatron.
Chapter 7: The Devastator
[edit]- Character: Optimus Prime
Megatron sends Devastator to Shanghai causing destruction. NEST Team orders Optimus, Bumblebee and Ironhide to stop Devastator before he can cause more destruction. Optimus swings through, defeating every drone that comes his way. Bumblebee contacts Optimus to backup, but then Starscream (damn it!) takes the little Autobot, forcing Optimus to attack Devastator. Then, Devastator launches Optimus to the bridge, destroyed by Demolishor with Ironhide telling Prime to use the pillars to destroy Devastator's missile launchers. Then Optimus finally attacks Devastator with two energy canisters sent by NEST. Optimus makes Devastator swallow the energy dock's power and finally destroys him. Then, Optimus finds a piece of ancient Cybertronian Technology that Devastator unearthed. NEST Team decides to take it to a secret Russian base where it'll never get found. On their way out, Optimus and Ironhide discover that Bumblebee has been taken by the Decepticons, and are now tasked with getting him back.
Chapter 8: Bumblebee Breaks Free
[edit]- Character: Bumblebee
Held captive in the Decepticon base, Bumblebee is freed by an unlikely ally. None other than Jetfire, the old bot himself.
Chapter 9: Megatron's Glory
[edit]- Character: Megatron
As hostile forces invade the base, Megatron must reach the hangar to confront Optimus Prime. He manages to take the Autobots and Optimus down all by himself, and vows to destroy Bumblebee. With Prime out of the picture, the Fallen sends Megatron to recover the last of his artifacts, to his dismay as he wanted Starscream sent first. As they argue, Bumblebee watches from afar. He and Jetfire put his body to rest, as they split up.
Chapter 10: Starscream's Path
[edit]- Character: Starscream
Optimus Prime is defeated, but the Autobots aren't out of the picture yet! Starscream launches an attack on the Russian base found earlier, taking out their defenses so that Megatron can find the Artifact. After destroying waves of Humans, Autobots, and turrets, Starscream reigns supreme and claims himself invincible.
Chapter 11: Megatron's Onslaught
[edit]- Character: Megatron
With the Human and Autobot defenses severly compromised, Megatron enters the Russian base to retrieve the Artifact, with Starscream helping along the way. On his way, he's ambushed by Autobots who are clearly no match for him. Upon collecting the Artifact, Starscream is very disappointed in its small size, but Megatron assures him that it will doom all life on the planet. As Jetfire watches afar, Megatron and Starscream head to activate the Star Harvester.
Chapter 12: Jetfire's Gift
[edit]- Character: Jetfire
The Decepticons now have the power to activate the Star Harvester and destroy Earth. Alone, Jetfire must reach Earth's only chance for survival, a faint Energon signature belonging to Optimus Prime. Megatron shoots him down on the way to Egypt, so Jetfire must go on foot. In the middle of the desert, a damaged Optimus calls for help, only to get spotted by Starscream and has a missile launched at him. Jetfire swoops in and takes the missile, severally damaging him. Jetfire introduces himself, and helps Optimus accomplish his mission by combining with him. Reunited with his Autobots, Optimus rallies them to fight the Decepticons as he flies away to stop Megatron and the Fallen, once and for all.
Chapter 13: Ironhide's Stand
[edit]- Character: Ironhide
The Autobots must act fast to prevent Earth's destruction, as Ironhide disables cannons to allow Optimus to fly in. After taking down the last cannon, he gets taken down by Moronitron- I mean Megatron. Before Megatron can finish off such heroic nonsense, Optimus swoops in to save him, and the two duke it out once more!
Chapter 14: Prime's Return
[edit]- Character: Optimus Prime
Crash landing in an arena, Optimus Prime and Megatron fight to the death, with Optimus coming out on top. Despite this, Megatron still brags about the Fallen and how the Decepticons will win no matter what. Optimus had enough so he slaps him and flies away to confront the Fallen.
Chapter 15: Final Showdown
[edit]- Character: Optimus Prime
To save Earth, Optimus Prime must defeat the most formidable of all Decepticons - The Fallen! Megatron and Starscream teleport out, so the Fallen has to play with portals and throw random objects at Optimus, to no avail. Optimus tells him he's wrong for sacrificing human lives even for the sake of his own, and the Fallen states that Optimus' cowardice for the humans will be his undoing ( foreshadowing... ). So Optimus gladly sacrifices the Fallen by taking him up to the Star Harvester beam, destroying him and the Harvester in the process. Back on the ground, the Autobots rebuild the pyramid as Bumblebee and Ironhide bicker. Optimus calls Sam and Mikaela, hoping both Humans and Cybertronians can unite in peace without the Decepticons to worry about.
Back in the Nemesis, Megatron claims the Fallen's throne, and his new, yet to be activated army...

Quotes
[edit]Jetfire: Calm yourself, child. I am no enemy.
Bumblebee: You're no Autobot.
Jetfire: The universe is larger than your understanding of it. My motivations are larger than those of your petty war.
Bumblebee: Mind your words, old man. I've lost friends in this petty war.
- —Bumblebee converses with Jetfire aggresively.
Optimus Prime: Megatron, you fight for nothing. That is why you will never win.
- —Optimus Prime taunts Megatron during their fight.
Differences between the Game and Movie
[edit]Krome was clearly writing the game on a different planet than the movie's script, even more than Luxoflux.
- Sideways doesn't die in Shanghai.
- Ironhide, rather than Optimus, kills Demolishor.
- Instead of the forest, Megatron wounds Optimus in the Decepticon base.
- Optimus does not die, but is damaged.
- The Fallen appears to be in total command of the Decepticons even before Megatron revives, as he is the one calling the shots.
- Sam and Mikaela aren't in the game, except for a brief phone conversation with Optimus, and even then, it is only their voices.
- Optimus kills The Fallen by putting him in front of the Star Harvester's beam.
- The battle with Devastator happens in the first battle. While Optimus, Ironhide, and Bumblebee are cleaning up in Shanghai, Devastator appears out of nowhere and attacks.
- Also, Optimus Prime, rather than a railgun, kills Devastator.
- Instead of looking for the Matrix, The Fallen looks for pieces of the Harvester, saying he already has the Matrix. We... probably don't want to know what that means.
- Instead of being trapped in the Smithsonian, Jetfire is in the Decepticon base.
Notes
[edit]- You are unable to transform in robot missions, but able to transform in driving missions, and can jump from wall to wall. Sounds kind of familiar.
- The ranged Warriors look a lot like Breakaway, but they are blue.
- While in the first game, cars (and humans) seemed nearly invincible until you shot them, in this game, if you so much as step on a car, it explodes.
- Jetfire can beat the snot out of Decepticons by stepping on them!
