Wataru gets the expected history lesson and an unexpected history lesson.

Synopsis

Upon reaching the top level of their base (Basement 1, if you will), Bumblebee has to be taken to be treated for his injuries. Optimus Prime decides to escort him and Wataru while ordering Mirage and Grimlock to return to the surface before leaving. Almost uncharacteristically, Grimlock wishes that they didn't have to leave the others behind because the rest weren't fast enough. Mirage sympathizes with him and hopes the others will come.

Further below, Optimus gives Wataru a crash-course in their history, how after a long period of time the Autobot and Decepticon factions were then formed, which led to their war. When Wataru asks why the Transformers are on Earth, Prime answers that they had chased the Energon Cube to Earth 11 years ago. The boy equates energon with Transformers' food, to which Optimus adds that without energon, neither factions would exist. Soon thereafter, Wataru gets his first sight of the Autobots' ship that is at the bottom of the crater created by the meteorite. When Prime asks Wataru if he knows how the crater was created as they enter the ship, the boy explains the information is available in the school's textbooks.

Thar she blows, cap'n!

The true source of Hoshinochō's nickname was the Energon Cube. Bumblebee admits that the fragment they have, which could easily tower over Grimlock, is only a fraction of its original size, a flashback panel showing the full-size Cube being larger than their ship (the same panel mentions the Decepticons had been also chasing after the Energon Cube). When it had hit Hoshinochō, the Cube fragmented into numerous pieces.

History lesson done, Prime proceeds to begin medical maintenance on Bumblebee, the latter treating it as if it was a torture session, much to Wataru's concern. Optimus admonishes that if his scout didn't get treated, he'd break down. Deciding to ignore Bumblebee's objections to a nano-vaccine, the boy is distracted by a small light emitting from the fragment. Curiosity gets the better of Wataru, and he touches it.

There's a large energy discharge, and the two concerned Autobots and Wataru finding themselves...in space? Out of nowhere, Wataru sees Optimus, Bumblebee, and Jazz (the latter of whom he doesn't know) charging at a being who turns out to be Megatron. Both leaders are soon dishing it out with their close-range weapons. A view of Cybertron flashes by, and the current Optimus and Bumblebee get glimpses of other Autobots and a few different Decepticons, making Prime wonder if they're seeing their history. Remembering that Wataru's STILL touching the fragment, they return to getting to him, but Optimus notices that the energy output has healed all of his injuries in the process. Finally, he grabs Wataru and tumbles away from the Cube's fragment while a frantic and fully repaired Bumblebee hovers over the pair. As 'Bee and Wataru marvel over what has just happened, Optimus ponders their self-repair abilities, the light show and their recovery, as this is first time he's seen such a reaction. He wonders if Wataru really is...

Next one doing an "Under the Sea" joke gets it.

In the Decepticons' ship under the ocean, Megatron wonders about his rival's ability to deflect his cannon's shots and muses that Wataru's presence may be a reason.... Starscream enters, and Megatron warns his lieutenant about future operations, but the Air Commander politely retorts that his leader should rest more due to his "seniority". Unruffled by the "old man" jab, Megatron archly notes that Starscream should watch what he says and how the weakest of dogs bark the loudest. Excusing himself, Starscream mentally vows to become leader of the Decepticons someday before ordering Ramjet to head out with him. Their destination: the Arctic.

Wataru is given an Autobot badge that Bumblebee says he can use to contact the others. Delighted at the gift, the 5th-grader jokes about looking like a detective after pinning the device to his shirt, which amuses Bumblebee. In addtion to the badge, 'Bee requests that Wataru keep their situation and base a secret, as Optimus fears panic among the humans, and the boy readily agrees. Dropped off back at school, Wataru is surprised by the presence of police, but is abruptly berated by his younger sister Mai, as his disappearance is the reason for the uproar. Remembering why he ditched, he almost blurts out what he had just been told to keep secret, only for Bumblebee to remind him not so gently to keep silent. The Autobot then has to flee from law enforcement for the hit-and-run.

Up in the Arctic, Starscream gloats over having found his objective...

Transformers references

Still flying after all these years. Ain't she a beaut?
  • Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Starscream have cameos, but in their original G1 forms, separate from their Henkei counterparts. Prime and Megatron even have their energon axe and flail, respectively.
  • Jazz, Ultra Magnus, Rodimus Prime, Galvatron, and Soundwave also make cameos, but also in their original G1 forms.
  • While not named, the ship which the Autobots traveled in very much resembles the Ark.
  • In contrast, the Decepticons' ship greatly resembles their faction symbol.
  • It is not yet known whether this Energon Cube grants new life like the All Spark does.
