In ancient history, the Fallen was encased in his own sarcophagus by his brothers. He required a harvester to free himself. After much time passed, Megatron discovered his sarcophagus. The Fallen then commanded Megatron to build a large interstellar vessel called the Nemesis to search for a harvester. When the ship was complete, it was launched with a crew that consisted of the bulk of the Decepticon forces and the relic. Megatron pleaded to be able to go along, but the relic ordered him to stay behind to rule Cybertron. With the majority of the Decepticons gone with the Nemesis, ruling Cybertron proved difficult, as the Autobots put up a strong resistance.
After many years of hard fighting, Optimus Prime decided to capture the AllSpark and hurl it into space. Megatron immediately followed the AllSpark on his own with his interstellar alternate mode. Along the way he found the Nemesis abandoned by everyone except the relic. The relic orders Megatron to continue his pursuit of the AllSpark since, once freed, the AllSpark will seek out a harvester. Meanwhile, Optimus Prime and his crew prepare to follow Megatron in their own ship. Defiance issue 4
