Fiction related to the Movie continuity can be split into two parallel continuities. The The first is the "real" continuity which outline events as they actually happened in the fictional universe. Relatively little is known about these events. Most of what is known was revealed leaked to the public by the rogue Sector Seven agent X.

The second continuity is the series of stories invented by Sector Seven as part of their misinformation campaign called Hungry Dragon 2. This effort was kicked off in earnest with the live-action film Transformers and peripheral media. Certain events in this continuity may be similar to or even the same as the "real" continuity listed above, but it can never be known for sure, because it is all misinformation.

The "real" continuity

Events in this continuity come from two sources. Agent X leaked much of what is known in the Sector Seven alternate reality game. The prequel novel, Ghosts of Yesterday is also set in this continuity. [citation needed]

The misinformation continuity

Generally, when "the Movie continuity" is discussed, it is really the misinformation continuity that is being referred to. This may be due to the overwhelming success of the Hungry Dragon 2 campaign. This continuity encompasses all fiction related to the live-action film series with the exception of the "real" continuity sources listed above, and the notes listed below.

Notes

  • The plots of various video games, online games, television commercials, board games, and card games associated with the Transformers franchise and the Revenge of the Fallen franchise are often different enough from established in-continuity events that it makes it more difficult to place firmly in the main-line continuity. When this is the case, these are more properly classified as micro-continuities.
