This article is about the monsters from the G1 cartoon. For cartoon known as "Animutants" in parts of Europe, see Beast Wars (cartoon).
The Animaliens are aliens in the Generation 1 continuity family
"Animaliens": like "Animalien" but a sci-fi shooting flick instead of horror.

Transformers aren't the only species to enjoy gladiatorial combat. It is also a popular pastime for the gangsters and gamblers of the casino asteroid Monacus, for whom the ferocious Animaliens are the star attraction. Nothing is known of these creatures' history, planet of origin, intelligence level, or behavior in the wild. What is known is that risking your life against them in the Pit of Destruction is a losing venture.

Fiction

Generation 1 cartoon

As Smokescreen was led through Sheol by Bosch, they encountered the Animalien combat pit. Bosch informed him that anyone brave or foolish enough to pay 10 energon chips and face the Animaliens in battle had the amazing opportunity to win.... their lives, and 100 more energon chips. He noted that "few walk away with either." When Lord Gyconi announced his plans to pit the brainwashed Autobots against the Animaliens, Smokescreen was horrified and certain his comrades would all be torn apart. Gyconi himself planned to cheat the odds by "juicing" the Autobots with unstable energon supplements, thus allowing them to hold their own against the Animaliens.... briefly. After a few minutes the Animaliens would still kill them, and Gyconi would reap massive profits from the betting floor. Smokescreen was having none of this, and before his friends could get too badly damaged he burst into the ring with a diversion and helped them escape. The Gambler

Notes

  • Despite Smokescreen's certainty that his friends would be destroyed, we never actually see combat between Animaliens and fully-aware, fully-operational, fully-armed Transformers. It is unclear whether they'd really be such a big threat if not for how much Gyconi rigs the system.
