Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001 cartoon)
Robots in Disguise was the first dubbed Transformers show a US audience had ever received. It aired in the two-year gap between Beast Machines and Armada. The premise was wholly unoriginal; it took the same set-up as the original cartoon series and made a few minor alterations (such as Megatron being a Predacon, not a Decepticon). One notable difference in Robots in Disguise, though, was the profusion of humor, especially in the fan-beloved character of Skybite. Robots in Disguise was a dub of the Japanese series Car Robots, which had aired in Japan while Beast Machines finished its run in the United States. The dub quality tended to be poor, as did, usually, the quality of writing/translation. Ultimately, Robots in Disguise is a fairly forgettable Transformers series, especially as it added little new to Transformers mythology; however, Skybite's limmericks shall live on in the mind of many a fan.
