The Invisibility Factor

Synopsis

Intro

Pages 1,2, and 69: On a cold, clear night Kup and Hot Rod are driving through the desert when they spot an object streaking through the sky and coming towards them. The strange object turns out to be a rickety spaceship whose engines are failing. It's also alternating between being visible and invisible. Amazingly, Kup is not reminded of anything. Hot Rod rushes to see who is inside but Kup holds him back, thinking it might be a Decepticon trick. They need to make a decision: Check inside the craft now or go back to the Autobot City of Metroplex for back-up?

Main Branch A

Pages 54 and 19: Deciding not to head back, the two Autobots transform and duck behind a tall rock. Yeah, a rock. The hatch of the spaceship opens to reveal a brown-haired woman holding a toaster-sized box. Hot Rod rashly jumps out from behind the Autobots' dubious hiding spot, and thus scaring the poor woman. Kup quickly defuses the situation, explaning that he and Hot Rod are Autobots. The woman remarks of having heard of Autobots, but thinking it was "just a crazy story kids liked to tell." The woman goes on to introduce herself as Sarah Sanders and the box she's holding as her Invisibility Device. She was testing the device when her ship broke down. Kup and Hot Rod instantly realize that this Invisibility Device could be a useful tool against the Decepticons. Do they talk her into it? Or just take the device?

Page 45:
Unable to resist his own impetuous nature, Hot Rod yanks the box from Sarah's hands. Sarah protests but Hot Rod arrogantly suggests she should be happy because the Autobots will use it to save her planet from the Decepticons. Kup tries to stop him but Hot Rod takes off anyway, dreaming of the praise he'll recieve from Ultra Magnus back at Metroplex. He doesn't make it back though. Along the way Hot Rod goes over a bump, activating the device's self-destruct mechanism. The device explodes and Hot Rod, along with his plan, goes to pieces. END.
Pages 25 and 26:
They try to talk Sarah into allowing them the use of the device, but she refuses, not wanting her invention to be used for war. Suddenly, they're attacked by a group of Decepticons consisting of Thrust, Laserbeak, Ravage, Starcream, Scavenger, Shockwave and their leader, Galvatron. The concussion from their blasts knocks Sarah to the ground and the device out of her hands. The trio is forced to evacuate the area and leave the device behind. After noticing that the Decepticons are not following them, the Autobots transform and duck behind rocks again, this time to see what the Decepticons are up to. Thrust complains about the Autobots getting away but Galvatron doesn't care. He wants to know more about the spaceship and the box the woman dropped. Do they attack now? Try to steal the device from the Decepticons? Or do they fear the Decepticons will try and take off in the spacecraft, in which case they'll need to go back to Autobot City for back-up and a shuttle?
Page 8:
Kup and Hot Rod decide to strike now to prevent Galvatron from claiming the device. However, their strategy is a poor one as they are quickly overwhelmed by the larger Decepticon force. There are no further details as it's just too sad to think about. END.
Pages 18, 28, and 64:
After watching Shockwave roll the device over in his hand, Kup and Hot Rod let the Decepticons leave. The Autobots give them a small head start, before telling Sarah to stay behind while they tail the Decepticons. The Decepticons trip ends with them going into a canyon. Hot Rod starts to follow but instead begrudgingly listens to Kup detailing a strategy used the time he and another Autobot stopped a Renarian attack all by themselves. With their plan confirmed, they start racing back and forth and firing from various spots on the canyon's rim. The flurry of attacks and resulting state of panic causes the Decepticons to fire back wildly, filling the air with debris. Amid the confusion, Hot Rod slips down to the bottom of the crater. He looks around and see he has two options: swipe the Invisibility Device from Shockwave, or try to take out the closer in proximity Galvatron?
Page 13:
He decides to go after Galvatron. But as Hot Rod takes off towards the Decepticon leader, Starscream comes flying through and takes aim. Being an easy target, Hot Rod is blasted by Starscream just before reaching Galvatron. I guess you could say poor Hot Rod is fired. END.
Page 71:
Uncharacteristically making the smart decision, Hot Rod stays with his first instinct. Hot Rod grabs the device in a run-by, before transforming and racing off. Shockwave yells for the other Decepticons to follow him, but Kup fires just behind Hot Rod from behind his hiding place on the rim (probably another rock). The blast shatters the canyon wall, burying the Decepticons in rubble. Hot Rod and Kup rejoice. END.
