Starscream attempts to steal the AllSpark from the Autobots, but he'll have to get through Optimus Prime, first!

Summary

In a city battle, Starscream succeeds in capturing the AllSpark from Bulkhead. Starscream declares that he will use its power to become the new Decepticon leader. Bumblebee asks what happened to Megatron and Starscream informs him that he has destroyed the old leader with his own hands.

As Starscream flies off, Optimus Prime falls out of the sky in truck mode, transforms, and grabs a handle of the AllSpark, determined not to let Starscream abuse its power. Starscream explains that only the strong are suited to survive in the universe and he intends to weed out the weak--starting with Optimus Prime!

Prime refuses to fight with Starscream over the AllSpark and opts to tear it apart, instead. The resulting explosion sends Prime plummeting to the ground and appears to disintegrate Starscream.

A moment later, Optimus wakes up, surprised to be alive. Ratchet informs him that he was actually dead for a moment, but made a complete recovery. Bumblebee then introduces him to Sari Sumdac, whose key brought him back to life. Optimus and Sari hug, as Optimus thanks her.

Through a closed circuit TV, the disembodied head of Megatron observes the whole ordeal. He is intrigued by the little girl's power and decides to commence the second phase of his operation.

Notes

  • This issue is a condensed retelling of the final battle from the Animated episode "Transform and Roll Out, part 3". This series would appear to follow a similar yet different chain of events from the cartoon, as Megatron is reduced to a head and a hand, though if Bumblebee's curiosity to Megatron's fate is any indicator, none of the Autobots are aware that he's been injured.
  • This would appear to follow directly on from the prologue, where the Autobots had their brief first encounter with Sari, and they've still yet to be properly introduced, given Prime's unfamiliarity with her. However, there is no explanation as to where Lockdown and Blackarachnia have gone too.
  • So what was the first phase of Megatron's operation? Getting decapitated?
