Optimus Prime is an Autobot from the Transformers: Prime continuity family.

Optimus was a lowly archivist, but it wasn't until he heard of a rogue gladiator named Megatron and his call for an upheaval of Cybertron's society that he realized he was unsatisfied with his lot in life. Freedom to make your own choice should be the right of all sentient beings! Little did Optimus realize that his boss, Alpha Trion, knew of a secret potential within the archivist, and that Cybertron's history was at a precipice.

Once Megatron and Optimus discovered they did not have as much in common as they once believed, Optimus was chosen by the Autobot High Council to be the next Prime, Optimus Prime. The coming battles for determination of Cybertron's future were costly, but Optimus is determined to thwart his former friend's attempts at universal subjugation, no matter where in the galaxy their conflict takes them.

Optimus was a autobot general who would prefer to stay out of the spotlight.He first met a Scout named Bumblebee (Prime) while searching through the decepticon infested streets of Iacon when the core of cybertron was corrupted with Dark Energon.After he was informed of the decepticon leader Megatron (Prime) and his victory over Zeta prime and Omega Supreme (Prime) and the autobot high council going into hiding ,Optimus decided to take Bumblebee and Ratchet with him to defend Iacon until a plan could be made.Taking the role of ``temporary`` command of Iacon, Optimus and his team were successful in saving Iacon, defeating Starscream (Prime) along the way where they came across a message of Zeta prime revealing that he is alive and well(well alive anyway)and that he is being held prisoner in Megatrons capital prison complex...Kaon.After a short argument with Ratchet about whether the message was a trap or not Optimus wins favor and he begins planning for a way to free Zeta Prime.That plan turns out to be to allow himself,Bumblebee,And Sideswipe to be captured by the Decepticons.The Good news is that this allows them into Kaon.The bad news is that that are being taken to get recycled.More good news is that Air raid arrived in time to rescue them.More bad news is that Air raid has been captured as a consequence for saving them.More good news is that the trio save Airraid and the other prisoners,find Zeta Prime,and defeat soundwave.More bad news is that without life life support from Soundwave Zeta Prime dies and Optimus is declared The new Prime by The High council.Sucky day.

Based on his appearance in the video game Transformers: War for Cybertron, Optimus Prime transforms from a red, blue, and silver robot into an "armored truck mode." His rifle transforms as well, halving itself and plugging into the roof of the vehicle mode. The rifle can also peg into either of his forearms, and in its compacted configuration, it can attach to his shoulders via peg holes on the backs of his front tires.

As with, it seems, every modern toy, the instructions fail to show all features of the toy. In this case, neither the instructions nor any promotional photography seem to show that Optimus Prime's knees can rotate out to form a back bumper with tail lights in vehicle mode.

Optimus Prime is part of the first wave of Generations Deluxes, but he and Cybertronian Bumblebee shipped ahead of their two other wavemates via Toys"R"Us.
