Landmine is an Autobot from the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
It's clobberin' time!

Landmine is a fighter. He lives by a soldier's code and thrives on honor and loyalty to his comrades and commanders. Unlike his brother Landquake, he thoroughly enjoys the life of a warrior. Landmine's rough around the edges and a little old-fashioned, but he's got a warm heart under that gruff exterior. Since he's so old, he bruises easily, but after some mechanical tinkering from Red Alert or Coby, he's always back up on his feet, anxious to re-enter the battle swingin'.

In his millennia of existence, he has trained a number of warriors, including Mudflap and Optimus Prime.

When Rodimus left Cybertron eons ago, Landmine was one of the Transformers who chose to go with him. Serving as a traffic guard until the war escalated, Landmine boarded Rodimus' vessel along with his co-worker and partner, Prowl, a patrol officer. Landmine would become Rodimus' right-hand soldier and his personal bodyguard.

Landmine returned to Cybertron during the Powerlinx Battles to assist Rodimus in reviving Unicron and the Planet Q system. Although Landmine served his commander without question, he was sometimes unsure of their ultimate agenda. Landmine joined Team Optimus when Rodimus surrendered his leadership to Prime.

The ever-lovin' blue-eyed Landmine!

Ten years later Cybertron was once again under threat, this time by a powerful black hole that defied Cybertronian science. Landmine was now under the direct command of Optimus Prime as they prepared to evacuate to Earth. After the time-travelling Vector Prime arrived bringing hope to their homeworld's darkest hour, Starscream attacked the Autobots as a distraction while Megatron manipulated the naive Vector Prime. While Starscream managed to beat off several Autobots, Landmine easily counter-attacked the Decepticon subcommander until he backed him into a wall. Unfortunately, gravitation instability momentarily distracted Landmine, giving Starscream the opportunity to blast him into the path of the black hole. Fortunately, Vector Prime had sensed Landmine's peril and opened a warp gate. Landmine travelled through it and crashlanded on Earth, to be found by the human children Lori, Coby and Bud Hansen. Fallen

Awakening, he quickly befriended the children, in particular the mechanically-gifted Coby who performed minor repairs to the aging Autobot. However, Landmine and his new friends had to keep ahead of the curious adults who arrived to investigate the apparent meteorite crash and the 'Bigfoot'-like footprints Autobot had left in his wake. Trouble arrived in the form of Thundercracker, who set fire to the forest with complete disregard for human collateral damage in an attempt to destroy Landmine. Bravely, the damaged Landmine leapt to the defense of the children until Optimus Prime arrived to defeat the Decepticon and extinguish the blaze. Inferno

Due to his injuries, Landmine was assigned to oversee the Autobots' new Earth base Haven Hidden. Feeling inferior due to not being able to assist in the search for the Omega Lock, he eventually set off with Coby to search for an altmode before being fully repaired. Landmine scanned a bulldozer and, despite his injuries, was able to hold off an attacking Starscream long enough for Vector Prime to announce that the Omega Lock they had detected was not the real one Landmine.

As part of the healing process, Landmine sparred with his old pupil, Optimus Prime. He later helped rescue humans when Mount McDermott began to collapse Collapse.

When the location of the second Cyber Planet Key was discovered, Landmine was one of two Autobots selected by Optimus Prime to travel to Jungle Planet to retrieve it, along with Overhaul. However, an attack by Thundercracker prevented Landmine from entering the portal before it closed, and Vector Prime's injury meant he was stuck on Earth for the time being Search. Still, he took this in stride, and accompanied the Autobots when they investigated an occurrence of the Atlantis Pattern in the Bermuda Triangle. Landmine helped excavate the Atlantis, and also held off Thundercracker Deep.

When the space bridge was reactivated, the Earth Autobots immediately received a message from Red Alert, begging them to come to Velocitron. Landmine took the trip alongside Optimus and Vector Prime Ship, and helped save Hot Shot from Ransack and Crumplezone.

With Hot Shot injured, Landmine gave the rookie an angry speech about how he had endangered their entire operation by disobeying orders. Though apparently harsh, his rant was actually motivated by concern for Hot Shot's mental state; in getting him angry, Landmine hope to snap Hot Shot out of his depression. It worked, and the two went on to compete in the Velocitron Grand Prix Hero.

During the third heat, Landmine, along with Red Alert and Clocker, fell behind Ransack and Crumplezone; thus, they did not fall victim to Ransack's alteration of the road signs. Landmine alerted Hot Shot to the deception, allowing him and Override to get back on track and finish in the top three. As for Landmine, he forfeited the race to help counter the damage caused by Megatron's lackeys Detour.

Before the next heat, he helped Hot Shot with his training. When a call came from Overhaul, Landmine offered to go to Jungle Planet to help him, as he was supposed to go earlier; however, Optimus Prime denied this request, instead opting to go there himself along with Vector Prime Savage. Two races later, he called Optimus to tell him the result of the penultimate race, inadvertently allowing Sideways to escape Sand. After Hot Shot won the big prize, he helped fight off the Decepticons who came for the Velocitron Cyber Planet Key Champion.

Upon returning to Earth, when evidence of something strange in the Arctic was revealed, Landmine was particularly gung-ho to investigate, though ended up missing most of the action Ice.

He did eventually get to make a short trip to Jungle Planet, when that world's Cyber Planet Key reacted with Optimus Prime's Matrix and summoned all the Earth team to fight off Megatron Trust.

Back on Earth once again, Landmine accompanied Optimus Prime, Leobreaker, and Jetfire to the North Pole in search of the same strange anomaly. The found a mysterious cave and Landmine tried to fight off Starscream, but was easily beaten. When Starscream reactivated the Ancient Decepticons, Landmine tried to reason with them, saying that Earth was a much different place than it was when they were sealed. All he got for that was a mid-sentence punch in the chest Trap.

He was rescued by the rest of the Autobots and went on to fight against Starscream's forces, but was forced to retreat when the US Air Force entered the fray and did not distinguish between Autobot and Decepticon Invasion.

After the retreat, he and Hot Shot were sent out to look for the kids and Mini-Cons. They met Tim along the way, and he seemed like a decent chap. They met up with the kids and Mini-Cons, along with Dr. Suzuki, in short order, and returned to the Autobot base.

Landmine made a valiant effort to fight off Starscream, but like everyone else, got totally owned Invasion. Later, when Megatron and his followers returned to Earth, Landmine was thrust into battle against Mudflap, a former student of his. Landmine suffered a breakdown at having to fight his old friend, and refused to raise a gun even when the also-reluctant Mudflap attacked him. He had to be saved by Vector Prime Revelation. At this point, he apparently snapped out of his shock, and was able to hold off Mudflap to allow Vector Prime to transport the severely damaged Hot Shot, Red Alert, and Scattorshot to Col. Franklin's base Critical. It turned out he'd trained his former student very well and had a tough fight, but ultimately, experience won out over youthful recklessness, and Landmine beat Mudflap back through the dimension gate. He accompanied the rest of the Autobots to Starscream's island Assault, where he tried to engage Ransack but was outwitted.

He then took on Mudflap once again, and again tried to reason with his old pupil. Mudflap seemed to be somewhat moved by Landmine's words, but ended up deciding to remain loyal to Megatron, much to Landmine's disappointment Starscream. He then shot at Starscream a bit to give Optimus Prime and Wing Saber time to combine United.

Upon returning to Cybertron, he briefly apprehended Thunderblast, preventing her from shooting anybody. He shared a crack with Bud about how the humans had become the aliens, and when the planet apparently started to come apart, he was one of the few not to lose his head, instead trying to calm down Jetfire Cybertron. He expressed fear that he wouldn't get smited for dragging his dirty feet around God's body, and when the Decepticons attacked, helped fend off Thunderblast Balance.

When Megatron was resurrected as a ghost, Landmine advised Leobreaker not to do anything stupid, but Leobreaker pointedly ignored him, leading to the creation of Nemesis Breaker Darkness. During the subsequent skirmish, Landmine, along with Crosswise, was one of two Autobots who first encountered Starscream, and promptly helped shoot him away Escape.

He subsequently returned to Earth with Crosswise, Lori, Coby, Six-Speed, and Reverb. While the kids went to tell their parents what they had been up to, Landmine drove around for a bit until Crosswise brought something to his attention.

That 'something' turned out to be Mudflap, who had abandoned the Decepticons and now, with no idea where to go or what to do, was vigorously crashing himself into a tree over and over again. Once again, Landmine pleaded with his old friend to return to the Autobots. Mudflap was initially hostile, even attacking Landmine, but was eventually persuaded come back when Landmine said that, even though Mudflap had made some stupid mistakes, he still wanted to restore their friendship.

That evening, Landmine went to observe the kids telling their parents they were going to Gigantion. Upset that the parents didn't believe their children's story an interstellar war between giant alien robots, he desired to transform right in front of them to corroborate the truth. Unfortunately, Optimus Prime ordered him to remain in disguise.

However, Optimus Prime arrived just a few minutes later along with Vector Prime, and both transformed in front of the parents. Realising that there was no reason to stay in disguise any more, Landmine also transformed, and told them all about how much the kids had helped them in their past quests, with Coby constantly repairing his injuries and malfunctions as well as helping Hot Shot on Velocitron, while Lori was incredibly brave and even stood up to Scourge. This, along with testimony from the Primes, at last persuaded the parents of the truth, and he accompanied the team in the journey to Gigantion Family.

Before departing, Landmine worked with Override to reactivate Primus' weapons and defense systems Titans. He also too part in prepping the Ogygia for its journey, using his altmode to quickly move a large number of supply crates on board. Warp.

Upon reaching Gigantion, he formed one of the search teams, along with Optimus Prime, Six-Speed, Coby, and Lori. When a careless cranebot dropped a massive I-beam on the kids, Landmine heroically leapt in to save the day, catching the beam on his shovel. However, the weight of the beam was too much to handle, and he started to deform under the strain even when Optimus Prime lent a hand to support. Fortunately, Metroplex was nearby to cut the beam in two and save them. After that, Coby had to patch him up yet again.

Landmine accompanied the rest of the Autobots to a lower level of Gigantion when they received word that Menasor had surfaced; when the Decepticons stepped out of the shadows, Landmine took on Thundercracker, though the latter was quickly defeated by his own overconfidence Titans. He later took Leobreaker and Snarl to search for data about Gigantion's lower layers, but all they succeeded in doing was being the first to get trounced by the re-Galvatronized Megatron Fury.

He was assigned to the backup team when the Autobots descended to the lowest layers of Gigantion, and came to help when Jolt was threatened by Ransack and Crumplezone City. This team eventually worked their way to the heart of the Lemuria, where Landmine claimed the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key and remarked on how for once, finding it was easy. Naturally, Starscream chose that moment to burst in on them and start whaling on Landmine.

However, Landmine tapped the power of the Key and grew to enormous size. He then proceeded to take his revenge on Starscream for the injury suffered all that time ago, as well as beat up Galvatron, before returning to his normal stature. Optimus

  • Landmine (Ultra, 2004)
    • Japanese ID number: SC-15
    • Accessories: Missile
These hands are made fer hurtin'.
Landmine transforms into an orange, blue, and grey Cybertronic half-track battlefield recovery vehicle. The front of the vehicle features a large plow while the rear has a rotating crane with a working winch, accompanied by a spring-loaded missile launcher. Unlike almost all Transformers, this vehicle not only has a visible, detailed passenger compartment, but any passengers would also survive the transformation process intact. The front half of the vehicle can separate from the tracked portion as a smaller truck cab. The tracked portion can then be reconfigured into a mini battle station that Landmine's robot mode can man. Most of the crane is detachable, possibly for safety reasons; it doesn't appear to attach anywhere else.
In robot mode Landmine has no weapons, but his standard 5mm fists can hold any Energon weapons or other weapons sporting a compatible peg system. In the dead center of his chest is his spark crystal, over which an energon star can be attached. As a red Powerlinx Autobot, Landmine cannot combine with any other Autobot except for the 'trailer' rear half of his vehicle, forming his brute mode. The tracks with their flip-out digger claws mount on his arms while the remaining portion forms a weapons backpack. Connecting the backpack to Landmine will depress a button which activates the classic Generation 1 transformation sound effect.
The Japanese Superlink release removed the electronics from his brute mode backpack and uses a different shade of blue plastic.
The mold was later redecoed as Landquake and Landshark.

Cybertron

  • Landmine (Deluxe, 2005)
    • Japanese ID number: GC-09
    • Accessories: Launcher, missile, Earth-type Cyber Key
Cyber Key activates BLADES OF FURY.
Cybertron Landmine transforms into a yellow wheeled front loader, with a rear mounted pile driver. His bucket shovel can be raised up and down, while his gimmick is unusual in that the Cyber Planet Key slot is in his rear wheels. To configure him into attack mode, one flips the rear wheels up (there are smaller wheels to support the rear end of the vehicle to compensate) and inserts the Cyber Key into the slots and twists, deploying blades down the center of each tire.
In robot mode, Landmine has a relatively high level of articulation, typical of the Cybertron toyline. He is armed with his spring-loaded pile driver rifle, which can fire the driver projectile. His Cyber Key gimmick can still be activated in robot mode, with the rear mounting of the vehicle having the articulation to flip up to a position just behind his head. A thumb dial turns spins the wheels (and thus creating the illusion of powered circular saws).
Landmine comes with a silver-bordered Earth Cyber Key, with the code dr94 printed on the back. Entering this code into Transformers.com's Cybertron website reveals a screen capture from an episode of the Cybertron television series of Coby (mislabeled Bud) and Landmine as well as a short paragraph about how Landmine is one of the oldest Autobots, and that he taught Optimus Prime how to fight.
This mold was redecoed to make BotCon 2006 Dawn of Future's Past Rhinox, and the Walmart-exclusive Live action movie toyline Grindcore.

Attacktix

When you got a condition, it's bad to ferget yer pills.
  • Landmine (Booster, 2006)
ID number: TF12
Rarity:
Faction: Autobot
Class: Warrior
Special: Shootback - 12/26 (46%) success ratio
Point Cost: 30
Base Speed: 10
Attack Type: Prodder (Punch)

The Landmine Attacktix figure represents the character's Energon Brute mode, and is subsequently one of the bulkier Transformers Attacktix figures. He has four points of articulation (head, shoulders and waist), though his head articulation is difficult to access because of his crane.
Landmine's special power allows an immediate free attack for up to three in-play Mini-Con figures. This makes him especially effective when teamed with hordes of well-placed Mini-Cons.

Trivia

  • It is highly likely that the Cybertron Landmine toy had pegs on the backs of the legs at some point in development. A pair of unused holes are still present directly above the folded legs in vehicle mode, on the underside of the rear wheel assembly.
