The Autobot Code is a philosophy from the Earthforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Everyone's a critic.

Though its origins are unknown, as are indeed its precise contents, the Autobot Code comprises a set of principles and rules that govern Autobot behaviour. Its reach is not universal, however, as some Autobots have completely abandoned its tenets when they felt the situation demanded it. Printed in Transformer-sized book form, it apparently advocates a policy of non-violence.

In a speech to rally his troops, Grimlock parodied the Autobot Code's policy of avoiding violence wherever possible, pointing out that the Decepticons weren't about to give up their evil conquering ways just because of a few friendly words over a glass of oil. The Earthforce agreed with him and unanimously abandoned the Autobot Code in favour of doing things their own way. Once upon a Time...
