I don't really see the resemblance to the XF5U (removed the reference - if you put it back, can you point out what's so similar?). I could've sworn I saw a German prototype or design study that looked like Highbrow's vehicle mode, but can't find anything on Luft 46 that matches. There might be some influence from the Blohm & Voss P.170, what with the general fuselage shape, the cockpit being set so far behind the wing and Highbrow's nose having an intake and propeller cone (but no prop). I think the connection's probably too tenuous to add, but maybe someone else can take a look and see. --Torgo 20:35, 10 November 2010 (EST)

To me the cockpit set up being so far back is more reminiscent of the Grumman XF5F Skyrocket than anything else. But even that is tenuous. Unless a designer comes forward with more information "modified P-38" is probably as good as we can get. --Khajidha 15:12, 19 November 2010 (EST)

--Look at it in profile, the way the cockpit is at the very back and the general lines. That, and the fuselage front section (fake engine). There might be a bit of Skyrocket in there, too. I swear I've seen something closer than just a P-38, but I just can't place it. --Torgo 19:03, 21 November 2010 (EST)
