Ignore all standards is the official TFWiki.net policy of... ignoring policies.

Loosely based on Wikipedia's "Ignore all Rules" (adapted since TFWiki.net tends to favor precedent and consensus rather than written rules) Ignore all standards broadly states; "In situations where the standards intended to prevent confusion would instead contribute to it, common sense should rule."

Background

On a website like Wikipedia, which has millions of pages, there are at least 50 of everything, and plenty of examples to fall back on as guidelines. Conversely, while TFWiki.net is currently(May 3, 2009) approaching ten thousand pages, we still regularly run into oddball one-off format-busting properties. Example: The Transformers theatrical films in 1986, 1998 and 2007 are all formatted differently, being part of an animated series, an OAV and a standalone feature, respectively.

What "ignore all standards" is not

Ignore all standards is not a carte blanche to ignore or make-up standards on the spot. Its purpose is to allow users flexibility to respond to circumstances where existing standards are inadequate, not the promotion of anarchy.

Standards are good; TFWiki.net likes standards. We're just not under the illusion that standards are perfect.
