- The Dark Gods are Unicron-allied evil beings of some sort from the Generation 1 continuity family.
In the early days of the universe, the Dark Gods were an army led by Unicron, a destructive force sweeping through the cosmos.[1] Primus and the Light Gods were "the eternal counter-force" to their "dark evils".
Fiction
Marvel UK The Transformers comics
When Death's Head psychically invaded Unicron's mind, Unicron immediately captured and threatened to destroy him. But, impressed with his daring, the god granted his captive's "last request" to know Unicron's true nature and history. He told Death's Head about the days of the universe's infancy when he was a force of nature, a being of pure evil with a dark army that only Primus and his Light Gods could stand against. Their titanic battles threatened the existence of life itself, so Primus tricked Unicron into battling on the astral plane and then jumping back to the physical universe, where both were imprisoned in asteroids. As Unicron told the rest of his tale, he made no further mention of the Light Gods or his own army. The Legacy of Unicron!
Notes
- It is unclear if Unicron is a Dark God himself, or if they are a separate class of beings that he merely commands. He has also been described as "the last of the Lords of Chaos",[2] which may or may not be the same group.
- What Unicron tells Death's Head is, in the real world, the first description of the Primus/Unicron myth. The next one mentions other gods but doesn't give them names or allegiances, saying only that their era was ending, and they were joining the Omniversal Matrix. Subsequent retellings don't bring them up at all.
