"Are you sure you don't mean sapient?"

(The above was apparently by Derik. Remember: Signatures are your friends.) I think he's asking if "sentient" (i.e., is capable of feeling things) conveys the intended idea as well as "sapient" (i.e., capable of reason). However, pretty much EVERYONE means "capable of reason" when they use "sentient." (Has Star Trek ever used the word "sapient"?) In fact, my dictionary seems to want to define "sapient" as "wise" or "sagacious" (neither of which apply to Scrapmetal), and includes a defintion of "sentient" which says "possessing the powers of feeling or perception." Perception might be argued to include some form of reasoning capacity. In any event, if we DO wish to change the word to "sapient" in the interests of more precise language, remember to change the reference to the "sentient" Scrapmetal in the Scrapmetal drones (UT) article as well.--G.B.
