"Are you sure you don't mean sapient?"
- (The above was apparently by Derik. Remember: Signatures are your friends.) I think he's asking if "sentient" (i.e., is capable of feeling things) conveys the intended idea as well as "sapient" (i.e., capable of reason). However, pretty much EVERYONE means "capable of reason" when they use "sentient." (Has Star Trek ever used the word "sapient"?) In fact, my dictionary seems to want to define "sapient" as "wise" or "sagacious" (neither of which apply to Scrapmetal), and includes a defintion of "sentient" which says "possessing the powers of feeling or perception." Perception might be argued to include some form of reasoning capacity. In any event, if we DO wish to change the word to "sapient" in the interests of more precise language, remember to change the reference to the "sentient" Scrapmetal in the Scrapmetal drones (UT) article as well.--G.B. - I don't think he's serious, G.B. There was just a long-ass retarded discussion about the terms years ago on ATT, hence the quotes. Possibly the most pointless waste of bandwidth ever. --ItsWalky 16:43, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- link please? I've got to see this. --FortMax 22:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ahhh. I do recall the conversation. (I've been around for longer than most people seem to think) Just missed the intended commentary. Wouldn't be the first time....--G.B. Blackrock 21:33, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

- Walky is correct. In fact- I think it was even BEFORE MY TIME in the fandom, I've just heard of it via in-jokes in fanfics.
- IIRC, the conclusion was- "Star Trek did it wront, but now, 40 years in, everyone uses Star Trek's term, so Star Trek isnow 'right'."
- (Sentient, IIRC, means posessiong consciousness, not necessarily human-level reasoning.) -Derik 00:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- The discussion I recall was in 2001 (looked it up on Google after being reminded of it here). Not THAT ancient.... (I've been around for nearly a decade, myself).--G.B. Blackrock 13:44, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
We really need something or other about how Scrapmetal's alt mode is identical to the walker tanks in some old anime. http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2417/rumblevo5.jpg
- X-Bob, you're banned. --ItsWalky 03:42, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, that was quick. Is his point still valid? I'm somewhat curious what he just posted there and its origins.--MCRG 03:44, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's hard to say. There's lots and lots of spider-tanks that resemble Scrapmetal. It's one of those anime staples. So it's not like you could point to a single one. --ItsWalky 03:46, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, they're really common. There was a spider tank in the Melbourne House PS2 game, so no real need to address it as a specifically 'anime' thing. --FFN 03:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- True enough. This particular pair (first column, first and second row), however, appear to be on the 2006 Botcon Hasbro panel slides, which is why I'm curious.--MCRG 03:51, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Scrapmetal most closely resembles the first one in the second row. Problem is, if we were to explain in every modern TF article that they in some way were based upon or influenced by a famous japanese mecha design, we would be here for a very long time. I think we should only bother if its really obvious, like Action Master Skyfall. --FFN 04:03, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Misassembly?
[edit]Has anyone encountered a from-the-factory Scrapmetal where the forearms are swapped? Is this a common error which should be noted, or did the previous owner of my Scrapmetal just get frisky with it? JW 17:59, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- I own both the red one and the yellow one, and haven't seen anything of the sort.--RosicrucianTalk 18:04, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
