The name Prime can refer to a Matrixload of different things.

The rank Prime, held by many characters, generally bearers of the Matrix of Leadership.

Matrix bearers
  • Sentinel Prime, a name that has been applied to many different characters who have a tendency to die and precede Optimus Prime as Autobot leader.
  • 1986Rodimus Prime, the form taken by Hot Rod when he gets the Matrix in most of the Generation 1 continuities.
  • 1990Prime Nova, a past Matrix bearer first mentioned in the Generation 1 Marvel comics.
  • 2003 — Alpha Prime, another name for Primon, the first Matrix-bearer in some continuities.
  • 2003Guardian Prime, one more past Matrix-bearer, also foisted upon us by the Dreamwave Generation 1 comics.
  • 2008Zeta Prime, the ill-fated interim Prime left to glue the Autobots back together after the Decepticons' rise in IDW continuity.

  • 2002 — Prime is the Japanese name for Armada Sparkplug, who hung on to the Matrix after Armada Optimus Prime died.
  • 2007 — Leo Prime, another name for Lio Convoy, a high-ranking Maximal with an Energon Matrix, which is not the Matrix.
  • 2008 — Longarm Prime, the Autobot intelligence officer disguise of Shockwave from Animated.
  • 2010 — Megatronus Prime, former name of The Fallen.

Fictional stories

Several stories contained the word "Prime".

  • 2004 — "Prime Spark", a prose story in which Armada Optimus Prime, who happens to be a Matrix-bearer, meets some other Transformers named Optimus, including Generation 1 Optimus Prime, who also happens to be a Matrix-bearer.


Television
  • 1985 — "Prime Target", in which a hunter was targeting Optimus Prime, who has the Matrix.


Comics
  • 1985 — "Prime Time!", an issue of the Marvel Comics Generation 1 comic book in which Optimus Prime gets back the Matrix.
  • 2002Prime Directive, a six-part Dreamwave Generation 1 miniseries which has a bunch of Autobots reactivated by the Matrix.
