In the early days of the Great War, Optimus Prime forumulated a plan to use shatter bombs to end Megatron's threat. After countless raids to search for shatter bombs, Optimus had Bluestreak and Fusion transport a cargo of shatter bombs. They were attacked by Decepticons en route; Blustreak made it to the Autobots while Fusion did not.

While a battle with Megatron's Decepticons on an expressway was ongoing, Gears and his Autobot comrades affixed shatter bombs to the bridge's weakened support columns. While Optimus Prime feigned an immobilizing injury to keep Megatron still, Gears activated the bombs, sending the bridge crashing down and burying Megatron and his Decepticons. Windcharger's magnetic abilities managed to save Optimus just in the nick of time.

However, after the Autobots left the scene, Megatron emerged from the rubble and swore to destroy Optimus Prime. And There Shall Come...a Leader!
