Duane Bowman is Kevin Bowman's brother. He's also a soldier in the United States Army, stationed at Hawthorne Army Depot, and works at the minimart, to try and make enough money to support him and his brother.

Duane's parents were killed during the Mission City battle between the Autobots and Decepticons.

Several years later, Duane was stationed at the army depot when he gave his brother a call. The call was disrupted by a clanking sound which Kevin claimed was a movie, but they were cut off by a communications blackout that covered all of Nevada. When Reverb attacked the army depot, Duane was among the soldiers who turned out to investigate what was going on, though they stayed well back while the Autobots took on the Decepticon. During the battle, Reverb threw a strange alien cylinder that landed near Duane. Its space-warping effect caused Duane and four other soldiers to vanish, transporting them elsewhere in the Universe.
