Talk:Wingthing (G1)
From MediaWiki
Since Wingthing's Animated counterpart is female, are we sure this one is a guy? --75.82.9.197 02:02, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- It doesn't work that way. Red Alert (Animated) is female but Red Alert (G1) is not. - Starfield 10:56, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- But is there any evidence that this Wingthing is definitely male? --Khajidha 13:08, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- It's a different continuity family, so it's irrelevant. --ItsWalky 14:28, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- I understand that, I'm just curious if this Wingthing's gender is established or simply assumed. --Khajidha 14:39, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- Unless this article is missing something, the only information about Wingthing is in Soundwave's tech spec bio. --ItsWalky 14:42, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- If the tfu.info page is an accurate transcription, there is no indication of Wingthing's gender in that bio. Should we desex this article? Or just add a note that he is used for convenience and is not to be considered definitive? --Khajidha 14:46, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- I suppose you'd have to do that with every character whose gender isn't clear. —Interrobang 15:01, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- I imagine the upcoming Encore release is a good opportunity for a gendered pronoun. --ItsWalky 15:06, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- Hasbro wouldn't secretly give Soundwave a female robotic sidekick. If Wingthing is ever made female it would be a retcon. If Regeneration One is issue 81 I fully expect to read all about these Action Master Partner creatures. Their gimmick is on deck. But I'm not holding my breath. - Starfield 15:04, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- You can't retcon something that was never established, Starfield. (And considering how Furman hates cooties, I'm not looking to him for additional female characters.) —Interrobang 15:08, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- Wingthing especially wouldn't be female in a Marvel continuity story. (Man, Recordicons strips set in Classics could potentially double the number of chicks.) --ItsWalky 15:08, 29 December 2011 (EST)
- Try going back in time to 1991 and asking an eleven year old owner of Soundwave if making Wingthing a girl would be a retcon. Hasbro just didn't make female Transformer toys back in the G1 era. Much less secretly female Transformers. It didn't happen. But we don't know much of anything about Action Master partners. A lot of their bios make them sound beast-like. If they are some sort of Cybertronian wildlife they could be male and female. Even in Marvel. - Starfield 15:32, 29 December 2011 (EST)
