Kup reveals that there are some energon cubes somewhere on Earth. Immediately the hunt is on!

Synopsis

Daniel and the Autobots are out for a drive. Stopping for a rest in the forest, they are spotted by Laserbeak, who finds them highly suspicious. He transforms and enters Daniel's cassette recorder just as Kup begins telling a story about a hidden supply of energon cubes. The cubes were the most precious cargo when the Ark crashed into Mount St. Hilary, but nobody knows what happened to them since then. Hot Rod proposes a hunt for the missing cubes, and everyone cheers.

Laserbeak eagerly takes off, but he's spotted and soon has a convoy of Autobots chasing him. Hot Rod drops off Daniel with his parents so he won't end up in the middle of the battle.

Hot Rod returns to the Autobot City Metroplex, where Blurr is reporting to Ultra Magnus; Magnus calls a conference to plan for the hunt.

Laserbeak reports back to Galvatron aboard his ship, Cyclonus. Galvatron commands the Decepticons to roll out; they head for the crash site of the Ark.

Meanwhile, the Autobots are also headed for the Ark. They arrive and don't see any Decepticons—but the Decepticons are already digging on the other side of the mountain! Scourge detects the Autobots, both sides claim the cubes, and a battle ensues. Rumble and Sludge both split open the earth with their powers, and the lost treasure is revealed!

Springer, Brawn, and Grimlock try to play keepaway with the box of cubes, but Galvatron wrestles Grimlock for it. As they struggle, the box rips open and thousands of (tiny) energon cubes spill out. Starscream scarfs them all down and proclaims himself the most powerful Decepticon, saying that he will lead the force now. Galvatron immediately attacks him, while the Autobots just kind of shuffle off, figuring there's nothing left to fight for. As they leave, Hot Rod asks Kup for another one of his stories!

Notes

  • This is one of many secondary stories that came out around the time of The Transformers: The Movie and incorporate many of its characters, but in ways that are incongruous with the events of the movie itself.
  • Several Marvel Comics-based elements show up here, such as Mt. St. Hillary, the Ark being explicitly named as such, and Buster Witwicky filling in for Spike as Daniel's father. The art seems to suggest a Carly-Jessie switcharoo as well.
  • When the Autobots transform on page 4, Kup appears to be transforming from a Volkswagen.
  • Ship-mode Cyclonus is drawn as Scourge. Inside, his robot-mode passengers include... Scourge.
  • Galvatron gives his troops the somewhat Autobot-centric command to "roll out".
  • Somehow, they do this even though they're in a ship in space.
  • The energon cubes are drawn as unusually tiny little things.
