John Tomlinson is a British comics designer, editor and, in his alternate mode of Steve Alan, writer. He served as designer for Marvel Comics UK's The Transformers from issue #22 until issue #120.[1] Having noticed the preponderance of successful people called "Steve" or "Alan" in the comics industry he opted to combine the two names as a pseudonym. In this capacity he scripted "Destiny of the Dinobots!"

His other notable comics work includes a stint on 2000 AD, serving as the editor of that title from 1994 until 1996 and also editing Judge Dredd Megazine in 1996.
