Talk:The Transformers: Regeneration One
Relationship to Marvel UK-only stories?
In the entry for issue 81 on this wiki, we're told that, for the purposes of this title, the UK-only stories don't count. A source is cited [1] in which Simon Furman says "There are no direct follow-ons from UK stories in RG1."
Now, this to me seem very ambiguously worded - I don't think this is enough with which to conclusively state that the UK stuff 'never happened'. For example, "Matrix Quest" doesn't directly follow-on from "The New Order", but is generally assumed to have taken place within the same fictional universe. I doubt Regeneration One will be 'directly' following-up on, say, "Showdown", but that doesn't necessarily mean that "Showdown" suddenly becomes non-canonical.
I know that Sandstorm and a bunch of others died in the UK-only "Time Wars" (which may lend credence to the UK-doesn't-count theory), but then again, since when has death been a barrier to making a comeback appearance in this franchise, eh?
Also in the entry for Issue 81, it's listed as an error that Kup can recognise Galvatron (since they never met in the US comics). But if you take the UK issues into account, they met in "Target 2006". Hell, Galvatron was on Earth in the 80s & 90s so often in the UK strips, that I'd be surprised if any Autobot hadn't been trained to recognise Galvatron on sight.
My point is that, maybe we shouldn't hang too much on a vaguely-written forum post and maybe wait until there's some strong evidence either way in the comics themselves.
Just to point out, I'm not pro- or anti-UK at this point; I just think we should maybe hold out a bit before making such sweeping statements.
And, to be fair, I'm not sure it matters much anyway, given that the 'Earthforce' stories are such a continuity trainwreck and we keep UK stories in italics anyway to identify the divergent story-arc... so maybe I'm ranting about nothing here!
But I do think we can afford to be a bit more fluid in the current policy regarding these comics, and that we should avoid such 'UK stories don't count'-style remarks on future entries until all this is cleared up. Cheers!--Ryan Frost 15:39, 2 August 2012 (EDT)
