- The Technobots are a sub-group of the Autobots during the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Technobots were created by Grimlock in the third season episode Grimlock's New Brain.
Grimlock was made super-intelligent by accidentally absorbing energies from Unicron, which allowed him to build the Technobots' bodies, and then transfer this super-intelligence into them.
During the remainder of the third season, the Technobots were typically paired with the Terrorcons as adversaries.
(Note: Because they gained their sentience through the energies of Unicron, fanwankery suggests that they are, in fact, minions of Unicron pretending to be good, loyal Autobots, and just waiting for the right moment to strike. There is no evidence that they ever did anything but wait.)

The Technobots crew the Autobot vessel Calabi-Yau, under the command of Jetfire.[1] After landing on Cybertron, Scattershot, Lightspeed and Strafe accompany Jetfire on a reconaissance mission and are captured by Bludgeon's group of Decepticons. Nosecone and Afterburner, having taken the Calabi-Yau back into orbit, crash-land back on Cybertron after escaping the doomed ship in an emergency pod and are captured by Centurion droids.
