Scattershot is an Autobot Technobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Scattershot (aka Scattorshot<ref name="scattorshot">"Scattorshot" was an alternate spelling of the name "Scattershot" used by Hasbro for a while, presumably because they thought at the time that the non-standard spelling would make the name more easily defensible as a trademark. It was first used for a different character from the Cybertron franchise, and subsequently also applied to other characters using the name, which included a new Legends Class toy from the Universe line representing the Generation 1 Scattershot character that was released in 2008. By 2014, Hasbro was using the spelling "Scattershot" again.</ref>) needs no desktop generals or academy-trained slag skimmers to tell him how to fight. He just wades into a Decepticon patrol and doesn't come out until he's broken all his crayons and scribbled all over the mazes he couldn't solve. Then he puts down the coloring books and does the same thing to a hostile Decepticon force, only with guns and acid pellets instead of crayons. That's what he calls "strategy". Though Scattershot forms the main body of the giant Computron, if his own mind holds any fragment of the thoughtful titan's slow, considered approach, he hides it very well.

Grimlock would certainly like his style, and even the tin-plated bucketheads that think he's a blustering buffoon must admit that Scattershot is uniquely tough, the sort that Rollbar would say "broke the mold he was poured in". He won't stop fighting until he's utterly spent, down to his last microjoule of energy and drop of energon. He expects no less from the Technobots under his command.

Scattershot is uniquely and unquestionably skilled as a Combiner component, having served as the central torso for many different super robots. In addition to five-member, seven-member, and even ten-member versions of Computron, he's been a secret weapon through the hot-swappable Betatron, and can also merge with specific warriors to form Comperian, Autobot Super Scramble, Modulus... the list goes on and on!

Scattershot was one of the Autobots who left Cybertron aboard the Steelhaven in order to start a new life away from war (and perhaps from tin-plated bucketheads). Ring of Hate! But the Decepticons followed them to their new home on Nebulos, bringing the war along with them. Scattershot and the other Technobots repelled a Terrorcon attack on the resort city Splendora by forming Computron before all of the Transformers left Nebulos. Love and Steel!

After arriving in Earth space, the crew of the Steelhaven made contact with the Ark. Fortress Maximus brought Scattershot and his top officers to meet Boss Grimlock. Grimlock was less than impressed with the new arrivals, and wound up challenging Maximus to a duel in order to maintain control of the Autobot forces. Blaster was ultimately the one who battled the Dinobot on Earth's moon for leadership supremacy. The proceedings were interrupted by a Decepticon attack, and the duelists were forced to put their differences aside to lead their troops together against the attackers. Totaled!

Scattershot is the one who's exactly the same height and size as everyone else.

Scattershot travelled to Earth in an Ark shuttlecraft to confront the time travelling Decepticon Galvatron alongside Optimus Prime and Fortress Maximus. However, when Prime and his companions were transported to Limbo by the arrival of Rodimus Prime and his future Autobots via time-jump, Maximus and Scattershot jumped to the wrong conclusion and attacked the newcomers. With Wheeljack's help, Scattershot took on Blurr during the confusion. Eventually the misunderstanding was explained and the present and future Autobots united with their Decepticon counterparts to end the threat posed by the time rift. Time Wars

The Terrorcons later lamented Scattershot's demise as he and the other Technobots were killed by Starscream upon arriving in Buenos Aires. Stopping the Underbase was one puzzle Scattershot could not solve. Dark Star

In 2008, when Rodimus Prime learned that Unicron was reconstructing himself on the planet of Junk, he took a shuttle with Scattershot, Smokescreen, and the Dinobots to bring a stop to it. While Prime and the Dinobots took the low road to wade through Unicron's mind-controlled Junkion followers, Scattershot and Smokescreen stayed on the shuttle, taking pot-shots at Unicron's giant head while avoiding his annihilating eye beams. The Legacy of Unicron!

And so, the "Tastes great! Less filling!" argument reaches its inevitable conclusion.

Some months later, Scattershot joined Ultra Magnus in responding to a Decepticon rescue call, and soon began fighting right alongside Soundwave's forces against a marauding army of Quintessons. Despite bonding in the course of battle, Soundwave reluctantly refused Magnus's suggestion of peace, as too much had happened between the two factions over the millennia. As the Decepticons departed, Scattershot remarked that Soundwave was probably right, and Ultra Magnus called that the true tragedy. Space Pirates!

In another timeline, the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons came to a close in 2510, when Springer's Wreckers took down the last Decepticon outpost. One Decepticon still survived, however: Triton, a deep-cover spy working inside the Autobots. When Rodimus Prime announced his retirement and plan to give over the Matrix to Springer, Triton spoke out against the idea, dividing the Autobots on whether Springer or Ultra Magnus should be the next leader. Scattershot and the Technobots sided with Magnus, while the Wreckers remained loyal to Springer. The next sequence of events was inevitable: Whirl shoved Triton, Triton punched Whirl, Roadbuster threatened to kill Triton, but Scattershot fired first, claiming the first casualty of the new Autobot Civil War. Scattershot was part of the forces that went with Rodimus Prime to assault the Hub Network, leading one half of a two-pronged attack on one of the Hub's connection systems to cripple it. The plan proved a failure and a massive Cybertronian army attacked, downing the ship Scattershot was in. The War to End All Wars, Part 3 Somehow Scattershot was apparently left on Cybertron and was one of the victims of the transfiguration caused by the Dark Matrix entity, presumably turned into a shadow-leech. To counter the threat of the Terrorcons, an accidentally super-intelligent Grimlock built Scattershot and the other Technobots out of parts from Unicron's brain. Scattershot was appointed leader of the new team by his own creator, a fact that did not sit well with him initially, but the Dinobot leader replied that he and his teammates were perfectly capable of fulfilling their task. As the Technobots rushed into battle against their counterparts, Scattershot shattered the anti-electron source that Cyclonus and Scourge had stolen for Galvatron, thwarting the Decepticon's plans. When the Terrorcons merged into Abominus, Scattershot and his team were forced to pull back seeking for Grimlock's advice. It was then when the Dinobot leader revealed to the group that he also had given them the ability to merge into the gestalt Computron. After receiving Grimlock's super-intelligence (the process leaving him in his original mental state), Computron was successful in defeating Abominus by forcing him to separate into his individual Terrorcon components, and Galvatron was left with no choice but to call his minions for a retreat. Later stationed in Autobot City on Earth, Scattershot and Strafe helped EDC captain Marissa Faireborn intercept an incoming bogey; Scattershot was pumped at the chance for some action, having become bored with their work at the EDC science station. The target turned out to be the trader ship Lazy Sue, pursued by the Terrorcon Hun-Gurrr, who snagged Scattershot and Strafe and knocked them both out of the sky. Saved by Lightspeed's quick thinking, Scattershot claimed they totally could have handled it by themselves.

Eager for a rematch with the Terrorcon, Scattershot accompanied Strafe, Lightspeed, and the smuggler Dirk Manus to track down a Quintesson base within the solar system. This time they got shot down by Abominus, and were saved by the arrival of Fairborne and the other two Technobots. The team faced off against Abominus once more at the Quintesson base; combined as Computron, they quickly drove their foes into retreat. Money Is Everything

Normally, the Protectobots are called in to rescue humans trapped under giant chocolate bars.

Scattershot and the other Technobots again clashed with the Terrorcons, who had been sent by Galvatron to steal the heat-resistant metal developed by Dr. Mark Morgan and Gregory Swofford. The Terrorcons succeeded in absconding with the alloy. The battle damaged Morgan's lab and left his daughter Jessica pinned under some debris. Scattershot was manning the radar screen at Autobot City months later, when he made out about 100 "blips" heading right for them. His keen Technobot intelligence interpreted these blips to be the 1987 Decepticon toy shipment a full-scale attack. During the assault, Scattershot eagerly took to the skies to fight the aerial forces, then used his cannon mode to take potshots at the Decepticons from the ground while they retreated. The Great Transformer War

The Technobots, upgraded with the help of the human scientist Doctor Dalton, faced off against the Terrorcon Abominus, but it was a trap set by Galvatron. Forcing Abominus to split into his components, the individual Terrorcons spat a mind-controlling substance at Computron. Before Galvatron could get far with his new warrior, Spike Witwicky came to the Technobots’ rescue in an exosuit, firing a beam into Computron's eyes that removed the mind-controlling effect. In 2011, Galvatron staged a major attack on Cybertron. Scattershot and the Technobots joined the Dinobots on the front lines of defense. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky As Hot Rod began his search for the Matrix of Leadership on Earth, Ultra Magnus gathered Scattershot and the Technobots to prevent the Decepticons from hampering his quest. When Hot Rod finally located the Matrix, Galvatron confronted him with the Decepticon Headmasters and Terrorcons, but the Technobots arrived to help even the odds. Scattershot ordered them to form Computron, and the mighty giant occupied the Decepticons so that Hot Rod could make a break for the Space Bridge. Birth of the Fantastic Double Prime

Later, Galvatron launched Metamorphose, a metal-twisting meteorite, and the Aerialbots were its first victims. Scattershot and the Technobots were sent out to recover their damaged comrades for repairs, but they were intercepted by the Terrorcons. The fighting escalated with new arrivals on both sides, as the Decepticons tried to keep their foes occupied until the meteorite reached Athenia, destroying the Autobots completely. The Battleship Maximus eventually arrived to carry the Headmasters into space to confront the meteorite, and so Scattershot and the Technobots formed Computron and covered their retreat. Scattershot was on Earth with Ultra Magnus, attending to the shadowy robot's threat to steal all of Japan's energy. Terror! The Six Shadows The two of them also studied the mysterious seismic activity which led to a volcano erupting near the Peruvian city of Pan. Maybe Lightspeed and Nosecone finally nagged Scattershot into taking an interest in science. The Dormant Volcano Mysteriously Erupts When a giant carnivorous plant took root in San Francisco, Ultra Magnus sent Scattershot and the Technobots to deal with the incident. The plant proved to be extraordinarily resilient, however, and it was also guarded by the Decepticons. The Technobots were distracted by combat with the Stunticons, first as individuals and later combined as Computron and Menasor. Head On!! Fortress Maximus After the Trainbots ran into trouble on Mars, Scattershot and his team were on the way to help when Sixshot and Trypticon intervened. Scattershot and the Technobots were part of a strike team that flew to the moon to disrupt Scorponok's gathering of Decepticons. They immediately formed Computron upon entering the battle. Return of the Immortal Emperor Scattershot's regiment later helped load the Trainbots with energon supplies for the destitute planet Sandra. They were attacked by the greedy Decepticons and fought back both as the mighty Computron and as individuals, using the Trainbots' large vehicle modes as a shield. SOS from Planet Sandra

The Technobots accompanied Fortress on his quest to prevent the Decepticons from stealing energy elsewhere in the galaxy. During this extended mission, Scattershot and his teammates formed Computron to battle Predaking on the planet Paradise. Head Formation of Friendship

After returning to Earth, Scattershot and the Technobots reassociated with Ultra Magnus at Autobot City on Earth. They were sent to Miami to counter a Decepticon attack, and battled Abominus as Computron. Unfortunately, the attack was a ruse to draw them away from Autobot City, and they were unable to stop Sixshot's assassination of Ultra Magnus. Ultra Magnus Dies!! The Decepticon attacks continued even after Magnus's death, as Sixshot launched five separate strikes at once around the world. Scattershot and the Technobots were dispatched as Computron to one of the many battle sites. The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg Later, Scattershot informed Fortress that the Decepticons were attacking the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the Pacific Ring of Fire. When the Decepticons seemingly abandoned Earth, Scattershot and the Technobots assisted Spike in rebuilding the planet after the enemy's departure. On one occasion, they located Sixshot's old command base. By combining into Computron, the Technobots helped Defensor and Raiden obliterate the base, wiping out all trace of the Decepticons' presence. Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 1)

As part of Computron, Scattershot participated in the Autobots final battle with Scorponok's Decepticons at the North Pole. He lent his energies to the Headmasters' Head Formation to revitalize Fortress Maximus at the critical moment. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)

Upon learning of the human custom of Father's Day, the Technobots decided to throw a surprise party for their own "father", Grimlock. Scattershot took it upon himself to bake him an energon cake. Surprise Father's Day Party!!

In 2050, relations soured between the Cybertron Alliance and humanity when humans created their own living robots called Selectors, who rose up and demanded their freedom. The Technobots prepared to abandon Earth Defense Command headquarters at Neo Scramble City. At Rodimus's request, they transformed into Computron to determine the humans' chances of winning. Computron initially calculated humanity's odds at approaching zero, but the probability changed drastically when Grimlock and the Dinobots declared loyalty to humanity. The Technobots refused to stand against their father, and entered the battle on the side of the Dinobots. Scattershot and the Technobots merged with the newly combiner-compatible Grimlock, forming Volcaticon. With Grimlock forming the body, Scattershot entered a Targetmaster configuration as an electropulse cannon for Volcaticon to wield. Volcanicus comic 2

Scattershot was second in command of the science vessel Calabi-Yau, working under Jetfire. It was during this period that their ship encountered the rare Ultra-Energon on the abandoned Cybertron. In contrast to his usual action-oriented style, it was Scattershot who was the voice of caution on the mission to investigate. It was advice that should have been heeded as the team was attacked by Bludgeon's rogue Decepticons. Scattershot himself was impaled by Bomb-Burst during the attack. Stormbringer #1 Like the other Technobots, Scattershot was in the process of being cannibalized for parts when a recovery team arrived. Stormbringer #2 In a desperate battle against the super-powerful Thunderwing, it was the Technobots' brains that saved the day, by uncovering the clues to defeat the juggernaut. Later still, Scattershot and the other Technobots were at least temporarily assigned to assist Jetfire in understanding the mysteries of Monstructor and his gestalt technology. This research was conducted at the Autobot penal facility at Garrus-9, under the command of warden Fortress Maximus. Scattershot and his "Technological Solutions" team were Colonial Security operatives who spent most of their time solving problems on Cybertron's various colony worlds and keeping the peace. He and the rest of his team were sent to provide backup for the Titan Lodestar when she and her cityspeaker Lightbright went to search for the rogue Titan Vigilem, although the pair didn't approve of his decision to bring a Titan-killing imploder weapon aboard as a contingency measure.

After cycles of searching, Lodestar finally tracked Vigilem's signal to the Hexagon asteroid colony, but when the colony's administrator Thunderwing proved reluctant to turn the Titan over to them, Scattershot led his team to the colony using one of Lodestar's shuttles in the hopes that they could discreetly carry out their mission from within, but were detained upon arrival by Thunderwing's enforcer Bludgeon and brought to Thunderwing, and after some negotiation Strafe and Lightspeed were allowed down to the docking bay while Ramjet and Thrust brought Scattershot and Nosecone to the docking controls to manually disconnect Vigilem from his berth. However, a sudden comms blackout caused Scattershot to suspect treachery; after taking out their escorts the two escaped into the station's ventilation system, and after ambushing Bludgeon and reuniting with Afterburner the team regrouped in a sealed-off portion of the station that belonged to Airachnid. While battling the mad scientist, the five 'bots were knocked into her Combination Core, which forcibly merged them into a new combiner.

Correctly realizing that the newly dubbed "Computron" would surely destroy the colony if allowed to run amok, Thunderwing jettisoned part of the colony into space and took Computron with it. Although they eventually separated, Scattershot discovered that he'd somehow absorbed the power of the Enigma, and its glowing energy still coursed through his systems. Eventually, the wounded Lodestar found the team adrift in deep space after she'd killed Vigilem and brought them aboard as they limped back to the Black Hub for repairs. Light/Star

Eventually, Lodestar returned to Cybertron and found the Autobots of Crystal City under siege by the Decepticon army. She and Computron brought a temporary end to the fighting. Scattershot and the Technobots disengaged and he explained to the new Optimus Prime how he absorbed an artificial Enigma to gain this new power. The Landscape of Fear They traveled to Darkmount with Lodestar to recover their strength, but redeployed as Computron with Sky Lynx to help the Autobots reach Darkmount without further Decepticon interference. The Autobots held ground at Darkmount against the advancing Decepticons until the last Ark could be prepped for launch. Scattershot reactivated Computron to fight alongside the prodigious Leviathan against Devastator, the Decepticon's combiner. Devastator had more experience than Computron, however, and broke him apart. Scattershot recovered and realized the artificial Enigma within him gave him an opportunity Devastator lacked. Taking volunteers from the Prime Guard, Scattershot added Groove, Flareup, Pipes, Javelin, and Backstreet to the gestalt, dramatically increasing Computron's size and power. In this new form, Computron drew the attention of the Decepticons and sacrificed himself to remain behind while Optimus and the others left aboard the Ark. Computron was finally broken down, and Megatron's Decepticons took Scattershot and the other Autobots into custody as prisoners. Fate of Cybertron

Scattershot and his Technobots were ambushed by the Terrorcons, who not only sought to neutralize Computron, but were also after the keys to Autobot City. Though they managed to repel the first attack, the Terrorcons eventually overcame them, however after the Quintessons doublecrossed Manus, he used the Recreator to repair the Autobot team so they could defeat the Quintessons. The Transformers Scattershot transforms into a large red and white space cruiser with a ginormous cannon up front. In jet form, his rear landing gear is actually on his wings, which need to be folded down to keep him upright on the ground. His "Attack Jet" mode simply adds one of his small "artillery guns" to the top of the jet and the Computron chestplate to the underside; the instructions show the chestplate attached backwards from how it is actually designed to attach so it will not work that way. The more well-known secondary mode is the "Rocket Launcher" form, a piece of grounded artillery where the chestplate forms a blast shield. In any mode, pressing the gray button on his pilot compartment roof splits his nosecone open down the middle, revealing a spring-loaded non-firing cannon-barrel (which is what you're supposed to do for Rocket Launcher mode anyway).
Scattershot can also combine with his fellow Technobots to form Computron, serving as the super-robot's torso. He can also combine with any other Transformers that use the "Scramble City"-style connection system.
Later releases of the Hasbro Scattershot from 1988 have no rubsign, and the indent for the rubsign has also been retooled away.
The red plastic that makes up his robot mode crotch and forearms can often be found discolored to a very pale pink color on most specimens of Scattershot on the aftermarket, leaving the figure in two different shades of red. Hilariously, this discoloration was taken at face-value and made its way into the counterfeit releases of Scattershot.[citation needed]{{#ifeq: ||}}

Universe "Scattorshot" (so named due to trademark issues) is a redeco of the Cybertron Legends of Cybertron Vector Prime toy, transforming into a futuristic spaceship. He is available only in a Target-exclusive five-pack with miniature versions of combiner-team leaders Hot Zone, Razorclaw, Hun-Gurrr, and Silverbolt.
A photo of the toy on the back of the packaging features additional articulation in the elbows which is not present in the final toy.


Kre-O

Kre-O "Scattershot" (he got his name back!) is a Kreon included with the Computron Micro-Changer combiner set, and can be rebuilt from robot to "rocket plane" mode. His parts are also used to make up the combined Computron mode, with most of the Kreon itself forming the right leg and his helmet serving as Computron's helmet. There is a possibility that the orange pistols at the rear of the jet mode will have a very tight connection with the dark red pieces, resulting in them being damaged. Exercise caution!
His deco is based on the Generation 1 Scattershot toy, and he wears a dark red Sideswipe helmet, to match the combined mode's head.


Combiner Wars

Combiner Wars Voyager Class Scattershot is a retool of Silverbolt from the same toy line, transforming into a spaceship with a cannon for a nose. As a Combiner Wars Voyager he is able to combine with any Deluxe Class toys from the same subline (or the Unite Warriors and Power of the Primes series), although he was advertised as combining with Mirage, Prowl, Sunstreaker, and Ironhide to form Betatron.
While significant retooling is done to his alternate mode (which stock photography mistransforms) and a new core robot head is present, the combined mode is largely identical to Superion - which makes it extra odd that the super robot's head (which is sculpted in off-white plastic and had to be painted anyways) is a near-perfect recreation of the deco on that figure, instead of anything resembling Computron's.
His iconic cannon mode isn't an official configuration, but it's still possible to create it with some creativity.<ref>[1]</ref>
Later releases of Scattershot feature a running change: the joint for Betatron's head is thickened in response to the breakage issues.
Though Scattershot's wave was scheduled for a first quarter 2016 release, it arrived on U.S. store shelves in late 2015. He and the last three waves of Combiner Wars Deluxe and Voyager figures later showed up in the U.S. at TJ Maxx at reduced prices.
This version of the mold was retooled into Timelines General Sea Clamp, while the original was separately retooled into Combiner Wars Cyclonus.

A straight redeco of the individually-available figure, this version of Scattershot features a deco more accurate to the original toy, with large sections of maroon as well as blue detailing on his chest, arms, and combined mode. He also has a toy-accurate deco for Computron's head but his own head is now closer in colour to the original cartoon with a dark blue visor and grey face. He also features the retooled and improved combiner head's joint.
This Scattershot figure was only available as part of a Computron box set, including a poster and a collector card based on the set's packaging art. The set was one of several so-called "Collection Packs" that were "online exclusives" in the United States, available from online retailers such as Hasbro Toy Shop, Amazon, and BigBadToyStore as well as the online stores of "big box" retailers such as Toys"R"Us, Walmart, Target, and Kmart. In Hasbro's Asian markets such as Singapore and Taiwan, the set was available at general retail. In Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, it was sold at Toys"R"Us stores, whereas in Spain, it was available via the Spanish subsidiaries of Amazon and Carrefour, as well as the department store chain El Corte Inglés, supposedly also only available online.

Unite Warriors

Takara's Unite Warriors iteration of Scattershot was also only available in a full combiner-team box set, and was the fifth and last of the sets released at regular retail. He is a retool of the Hasbro version, featuring a new cartoon-accurate thruster chestplate, knees, Computicon chestplate, and Computicon head (as well as the retooled head joint). He also lacks the tiny rubbery pointy tail end piece of the spaceship mode found on both Hasbro Scattershots and all versions of Silverbolt. His deco is tilted more towards the cartoon coloration; the combined mode chestplate even has blinky-computery-light deco as seen in "Money Is Everything"!
Instead of the Silverbolt long-rifle and shield, he comes with two new guns which are designed to combine into the core of a massive multi-gun for use in Computron mode. Unfortunately, due to their size and the design of Scattershot's wings, they cannot be placed in the obvious front-facing under-wing position in jet mode without popping the wings out of place. Instead the instructions place them as "thrusters" pointing backwards.

  • All of the Technobots' pre-final rear-view robot mode models were seemingly drawn based on the isometric view of their front models. While at least two members of the team were left unaffected by this, Scattershot, Afterburner, and Computron's models all ended up with horribly drawn rear-views. In Scattershot's case, his vehicle mode nosecone is drawn sitting behind his left shoulder instead of the center of his back. The rear-view model also gives him a third, upside-down shoulder where the nose should be, as a way to relate parts of his vehicle mode to his robot mode—a common practice that was used for the majority of the season 2 characters who lacked rear-view toy references, leading the artists to make something up.
    • As with just about every episode animated by AKOM, the pre-final models of the Technobots were used, leading to several episodes using these rear-views.
    • There is evidence of a revised set of rear-view models existing for all of the Technobots in the Toei-animated episodes, however, those models appears to have been lost after season 3, as Toei ended up using the pre-final versions for The Headmasters cartoon.
  • Scattershot is the only Scramble City-style leader who assumes his "third mode" in the animated series: once in "Grimlock's New Brain" and again in "The Rebirth, Part 1". Not only that, but in "The Rebirth", he drives while still transformed.
