IDW Generation 1 comics
In 1984, Bludgeon and his team of Decepticons established a base inside Mount St. Helens during their attempts to gather Ultra-Energon for Thunderwing's revival. When they were done, Bludgeon tried to erase the evidence (and Soundwave) by tossing a plasma-density charge into the volcano's molten lava, triggering an eruption which destroyed the base. One year later, the human organization Skywatch excavated the mountain and found Soundwave's deactivated minions, Laserbeak and Ravage. Spotlight: Soundwave
Many years later, after Laserbeak and Ravage were freed from Skywatch's control, they brought the weakened Soundwave to Mount St. Helens. Upon arrival, they found that Shockwave had been waiting for them so that he could strike a deal with Soundwave. Maximum Dinobots issue 4
Notes
- In reality, the eruption of Mount St. Helens happened in 1980, and served as inspiration for the fictional Mount St. Hilary, where the Ark crashed in many Generation 1 stories. An exception is the Japanese "Beast Wars Universe" guidebook, which claims that the Ark crashed in Mount St. Helens.
- It was confirmed by Bob Budiansky that the Ark was originally planned to crash into Mount St. Helens rather than Mount St. Hilary.[1]
- While "Spotlight: Soundwave" says that Mount St. Helens is "near the region known as Oregon", Maximum Dinobots claims that it's in Oregon. Which is just not true.
