Backbite is a Decepticon from the Dreamwave portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Backbite was a Decepticon assassin who attempted to murder Optimus Prime during the early stages of the Great War. He wielded an energy sword.

Along with Darklight and Umbra, Backbite invaded the Chamber of the Ancients in Iacon, just as Optronix accepted the Matrix of Leadership and became Optimus Prime. Backbite was the first to fall, briefly sparring with Grimlock and Bumblebee before being gunned down and killed by Kup and Hound. The War Within #1

• Backbite was never referred to by name in the fiction; his name was given in later interviews with author Simon Furman.
• Backbite's design takes cues (the cylindrical torso and neck ring) from the original Galvatron toy.
