Should [[File:PredaconPrimeLogo.jpg]] be deleted in favor of File:PredaconPrimeLogo.png?KrytenKoro 21:22, 20 March 2013 (EDT)

Maybe if you'd done a better job of it, rather than reducing it to a 1-bit PNG... - SanityOrMadness 22:06, 20 March 2013 (EDT)
Then shouldn't the jpg be used in the faction template? I wasn't asking out of pride, but because we have two nigh-identical images being used.KrytenKoro 22:11, 20 March 2013 (EDT)
As you saw, I ultimately cleaned it up myself. See the difference? All your versions cropped the edges FAR too hard, even the 528kB one, so changing the encoding from 1-bit just increased the filesize rather than increasing the quality - it was a "go back and try again" scenario. [Note that the file I ended up with was 20kB, only very slightly larger than this one!]. - SanityOrMadness 22:39, 20 March 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, I saw that. I couldn't find a good magic wand setting, and my hands are far too shaky to have done it manually. Sorry for troubling you.
Mind if I ask what your process was, for reference on other projects?KrytenKoro 23:09, 20 March 2013 (EDT)
It was multi-part, with lots of manual touchups, selective blending and playing around with levels & curves to get to a flat black insignia on a flat white background. The second-last stage, rather than a magic wand selection, was this (I use GIMP), and then I added a lighten-only layer with the orange (albeit at first I forgot GIMP's a bit funny about lightening stuff with partial alpha transparancy, and then had to go back in and do lots of lighten-only layers to get rid of the slight black halo!). - SanityOrMadness 23:35, 20 March 2013 (EDT)

At this stage, with the PNG superior in every way, I would definitely support replacing the last instances of the JPEG.--RosicrucianTalk 23:19, 20 March 2013 (EDT)
