Lord Chumley: british freak
"All's fair in love and Big Game hunting!"

Lord Chumley is a vengeful big game hunter that uses advanced technology to stalk and bag the most dagerous and exotic creatures on the planet.

He appears in the episode "Prime Targets" in the second season of the original Transformers Cartoon Series.

Dinsmore, loyal but long-suffering

Dinsmore

Dinsmore is Chumley's somewhat decrepit manservant. Aged to the point of decrepitude, he has painful memories of the Boer War which ended in 1902, and is no longer able to pour coffee straight.

He had a black sense of humor, noting that the Decepticons were "just like the Humane Society in a way" when they spoiled Chumley's hunt, and dryly suggesting that, though Prime's value as a trophy had been ruined, he could still be made into a nice coffee table. When Lord Chumley was contemplating how to destroy the Decepticon triple-changers, Dinsmore gleefully suggested molten lava

Dinsmore had a noted lack of enthusiasm for Lord Chumley's schemes, greeting his announcement he would hunt Optimus Prime with only a tired "oh dear." He tried to gently dissuade Chumley from continuing, suggesting they call in early because he was bushed. When Prime breached Chunley's castle, Dinsmore hid in the tank in the trophy room.

The Concurence

In 2005, Lord Chumley was a member of the The Concurence, an organization dedicated to ridding Earth of all Transformers. In the short term they have allied the Decepticons to disrupt the human-Autobot alliance, and aided in the theft of some Autobot bodyframes.

Lord Chumley was a British big game hunter. After he successfully caught one of every animal on the planet, he turned to hunting machines.

When he got tired of that, he decided to hunt Transformers, specifically Optimus Prime.

He's kind of a jerk, that Lord Chumley.

Misc

Cut from 'Prime Target's original script:

  • After capturing Tracks and Bumblebee, Chumley proclaims the experience "More fun than a snipe hunt at Lake Tanganyika!"
  • Dinsmore reminisces about the rhino. "Oh, right, sir! It was in sixty-seven. I'll never

forget it. Four tons of charging..."

  • Chumley's fake car wash has a sign advertizing a free wax and polish to lure Autobots.
  • Chumly refrains from watching Prime's progeress on the monitor, prefering his telescope "Monitors, harrumph! You lose the immediacy of the sport!"
  • Finally unable to take the excitement anymore, Dinsmore tenders his resignation, but agrees to stay until Chumley can locate a replacement.
  • After Astrotrain blasts Prime, Chumley speaks to him through his scorpion-robot, "Help my machine to its feet, old sport..." before attacking him. Astrotrain still says "Certainly!" in reply to the nonexistant comment in the finished episode.

Comments: Though I'll never be able to proove it, I firmly believe Lord Chumley was inspired by the Klaatu song 'Sir Bodsworth Rugglesby III' -Derik
