While Bonnie and Clyde hit a bank in Sowers, Texas, Jones waited outside with the engine running. The two criminals soon emerged with bags of money and piled into the car, but as Jones stepped on the gas, he ran smack into the side of a police car. Jones was rendered unconscious in the crash and later incarcerated in Eastham Jail. He didn't have to wait long before Bonnie and Clyde turned up to stage a jailbreak with a surprise—a car that turned into a heavily-armed robot. Though Bonnie was captured in the escape, Jones and the rest of the prisoners escaped with Clyde and the robot to the wilderness. The ex-prisoners were unhappy at being sprung as it would result in severe penalties for them when the law caught up, but after one of their number was killed by the robot, Jones and the other ex-cons fled in terror.
