Marvel Comics
From MediaWiki
It is a little-known fact that, despite the 80s cartoon being the most recognizable bit of Transformers media, the Marvel comic actually came first. One of the twin titans of the comic-book industry, Marvel published to date the longest run of consecutive Transformer comics, from 1984-1990, and picked up again for a year of "Generation 2" in 1992.
Most Marvel issues were written by one of two people:
- Bob Budiansky, who edited the original 4-issue limited series before becoming the first permanent writer of the ongoing series, and is credited with creating most of the backstory to the Transformers mythos, as well as writing most of the Tech Specs that came with the Hasbro toys.
- Simon Furman, who had been the main writer for the Marvel UK series before being asked by Budiansky to write for the US comic, as well. Furman wrote approximately last 1/3 of the original US series, and continued on to do the Generation 2 series.
